Keep The Main Thing The Main Thing Slides, 4/22/12
1.
2. For I delivered to you as of first importance what
I also received: that Christ died for our sins in
accordance with the Scriptures, that he was
buried, that he was raised on the third day in
accordance with the Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (ESV)
3. “The main thing is to keep the main thing the
main thing.”
–Stephen R. Covey
4. “The Gospel is the heart of the Bible. Everything
in Scripture is either preparation for the Gospel,
presentation of the Gospel, or participation in
the Gospel.”
–Dave Harvey
6. Moralistic Therapeutic Deism:
1. "A god exists who created and ordered the
world and watches over human life on earth."
2. "God wants people to be good, nice, and fair to
each other, as taught in the Bible and by most
world religions."
3. "The central goal of life is to be happy and to
feel good about oneself."
4. "God does not need to be particularly involved
in one's life except when God is needed to
resolve a problem."
5. "Good people go to heaven when they die."
9. Now I would remind you, brothers, of the
gospel I preached to you, which you
received, in which you stand, and by which
you are being saved, if you hold fast to the
word I preached to you— unless you
believed in vain.
10. For I delivered to you as of first importance
what I also received: that Christ died for
our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,
that he was buried, that he was raised on
the third day in accordance with the
Scriptures,
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (ESV)
11. I am astonished that you are so quickly
deserting him who called you in the grace of
Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not
that there is another one, but there are some
who trouble you and want to distort the gospel
of Christ. But even if we or an angel from
heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary
to the one we preached to you, let him be
accursed.
12. As we have said before, so now I say again: If
anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to
the one you received, let him be accursed.
Galatians 1:6-9 (ESV)
13. I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I
who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life
I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I
do not nullify the grace of God, for if
righteousness were through the law, then Christ
died for no purpose.
14. O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It
was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was
publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you
only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of
the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so
foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now
being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so
many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain?
15. Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and
works miracles among you do so by works of the
law, or by hearing with faith—
Galatians 2:20-3:5 (ESV)
16. though I myself have reason for confidence in
the flesh also. If anyone else thinks he has
reason for confidence in the flesh, I have more:
circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of
Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of
Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; as to zeal, a
persecutor of the church; as to righteousness
under the law, blameless.
17. But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the
sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss
because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ
Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss
of all things and count them as rubbish, in order
that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not
having a righteousness of my own that comes from
the law, but that which comes through faith in
Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on
faith—
Philippians 3:4-9 (ESV)
