2. But whatever was to my profit I now consider
loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I
consider everything a loss compared to the
surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus
my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I
consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
and be found in him, not having a
righteousness of my own that comes from the
law, but that which is through faith in Christ—
the righteousness that comes from God and is
by faith.

3. I want to know Christ and the power of his
resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in
his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection
from the dead.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or
have already been made perfect, but I press
on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus
took hold of me.

4. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have
taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting
what is behind and straining toward what is
ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the
prize for which God has called me heavenward
in Christ Jesus.

5. A second time they summoned the man who had
been blind. "Give glory to God," they said. "We
know this man is a sinner."
He replied, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I don't
know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I
see!"
Then they asked him, "What did he do to you?
How did he open your eyes?"
He answered, "I have told you already and you
did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again?
Do you want to become his disciples, too?"

6. Then they hurled insults at him and said, "You
are this fellow's disciple! We are disciples of
Moses! We know that God spoke to Moses,
but as for this fellow, we don't even know
where he comes from."
The man answered, "Now that is remarkable!
You don't know where he comes from, yet he
opened my eyes. We know that God does not
listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man
who does his will.

7. Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of
a man born blind. If this man were not from
God, he could do nothing."
To this they replied, "You were steeped in sin
at birth; how dare you lecture us!" And they
threw him out.

8. As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to
him and fell on his knees before him. "Good
teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit
eternal life?"
"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered.
"No one is good—except God alone. You know
the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not
commit adultery, do not steal, do not give
false testimony, do not defraud, honor your
father and mother.'"

9. "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept
since I was a boy."
Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing
you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you
have and give to the poor, and you will have
treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.“

10. As Jesus and his disciples were on their way,
he came to a village where a woman named
Martha opened her home to him. She had a
sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet
listening to what he said. But Martha was
distracted by all the preparations that had to
be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord,
don't you care that my sister has left me to do
the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

11. "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you
are worried and upset about many things, but
only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen
what is better, and it will not be taken away
from her.“
