Editor's Notes

  1. 1. – This project is looking at how Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) can be implemented within Scottish water with the primary aim of developing a tool for aquaculture site selection and development in the future.2. – This will be carried out using (Geographical Information System) GIS to develop different tools to aid MSP development, this will firstly involve the development of a new zoning scheme for Scottish waters.3. - Any areas highlighted as zones suitable for aquaculture by the zoning scheme will then be investigated further. Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) will be applied in order to identify both future aquaculture sites and existing sites that have potential for further development4. –Lastly areas identified, using MCE and the Zoning scheme, as potentially viable for future aquaculture development will have biological and mathematical models applied to the collective data, helping to predict the likelihood of success at the proposed sites.
