How to create a Quia class roster using an NCWISE class list or a pdf document of names and information.

1. How to create an importable class list for Quia.com classes

1. In NCWISE create a class list for all of your classes.
2. Save this pdf file as “class list” on your desktop or where you can get to it. (It is not a
bad idea to have this saved so you can print a class list whenever you need one.)
3. Open this class list file (should be in Adobe Reader) and look for the I-select button.
4. Highlight/select the list of students on the class page you just created in NCWISE and
copy them to your clipboard (ctrl-c or right click and choose copy).
5. Open a new Excel spreadsheet and paste them in cell A2.
6. Do the same for the NCWISE numbers off your class list. Copy and paste them in
cells B2 and C2.
7. Now in cell A1 paste “Last Name, First Name”, B1 paste “Student ID”, and in C1
paste “Password”
8. Now go to File Save As, and choose a file name, and choose the type as “CSV
(comma delimited)”
9. It will give you two messages- click ok for the first, and no for the second.
10. Then exit out of the save window still on your screen.
11. Repeat this for all of your classes and close Excel.
12. Now open the saved file with notepad. To do this right click on the CSV file you just
created, scroll down and choose open with, and choose Notepad or choose program
and pick notepad as the program of choice.
13. Once open in notepad, you need to get rid of all quotation marks. Do edit replace,
type a “ in the find what box, and leave the replace with box empty. Click replace
all.
14. Your final list should have a header row that looks like:
Last Name, First Name, Student ID, Password
15. And the rest of the rows should look like:
Last, First, 412703,412703
Last, First, 412703,412703
Last, First, 412703,412703
Last, First, 412703,412703
16. Now go to Quia Classes Roster Import Student List
When your file is ready, click Import. Depending on the number of students in your file,
processing the file may take up to a minute or two. If any errors in the file are found, they
will be listed. Otherwise, you will have the opportunity to confirm your information
before the students are added to your roster. Look at the confirmation page carefully to be
sure that the changes are as you expected, then click Confirm and import list. If there are
any problems, you can cancel the import and make changes to your file, then import it
again.
