Day 1_Session 3_TRIPS_WASDS_Fergus Sinclair - A presentation setting out the development of joint work in Burkina Faso across three CGIAR Research Programs: WLE, FTA, and CCAFS
1. Bonn – the Background
• June 6-7 meeting of WLE, FTA and CCAFS in Bonn
discussed areas of cross-CRP synergy (both issue
and place-based).
• Burkina Faso was chosen as a good location to
develop and elaborate joint work as all three
CRPs have major new research programs there,
and there is potential to link to Dryland Systems.
• Agreed to proceed with a scoping of shared
objectives, entry points and impact pathways in
Burkina Faso.
3. Montpellier
Objectives
Build a shared understanding of :
• Boundaries and overlaps
• Partner networks
• Entry points and breadth of
activities
• Site locations and scales of
intervention
• Impact pathways
Aim to develop:
• Common or aligned theory
of change
• Common/aggregate
indicators
• Leveraged targets and
outcome strategies
• Harmonized planning,
monitoring and learning
efforts
4. Burkina Faso
Timeline
Phase 1: August - October 2013
Key players already on location
Meet with CRP representatives, leaders of major CRP projects, and main national and local
partners to develop shared understanding of issues & approaches
Engage Dr. Paul Duignan (outcomes theory and DoView) to facilitate the development of a
first draft theory of change and impact pathways
Phase 2: November 2013 – March 2014
Following review of draft theory of change and impact pathways by CRP representatives,
leaders of major CRP projects, and main national and local partners:
Assess need for outcome mapping (Terry Smutylo) to identify boundary partners and
progress markers (micro-scale indicators)
Develop common/aggregate indicators & leveraged targets
Develop harmonized planning, monitoring and learning strategy
Develop implementation plan
Phase 3: December 2014-December 2016
Periodic review of the strategy (does it address the objectives?) does it work, what
improvements needed etc.
Annual review of implementation
Lessons applied in other countries
Notes de l'éditeur
The slide below was developed and presented to donors at the Phase 2 meeting (20 June) in Montpellier as an example of WLW, FTA and CCAFS efforts to manage the interface between the programs, as well as leverage respective program contributions to IDOs.
