career, we must stress that accounting involves
a lot more than being good at simple arithmetic.
While it may be hard to believe, it is not highly
mathematical.
• Personal judgement is often the solution to
many accounting problems , with a subjective
element present in many scenarios’.
• The simplified examples used in this course
illustrate some complicated issues that cannot
be easily solved. The main focus of this course is
to get you thinking like an accountant .With that
being said, if you were an accountant and were
asked “What does 2 +2 make?” you might
respond “What do you want it to make?”. Your
first step into the world of accounting has

4. Organize your private study so that you
have covered every module in the
syllabus in detail.
Read each chapter slowly. Ensure that you do
each activity and work through each
example. Don’t panic if you do not
understand each point immediately read
on to the end of the chapter.
Read the chapter again, this time making sure
that you understand each point. If
necessary, go back and re-read and repeat
until you understand the point.
