3. A Great Camera
The best cameras for landscape photography are high-
performance, and allow for flexibility and artistry. On the
high end, the Canon EOS 5D Mark III is the gold
standard of digital SLRs, and ideal for nearly any
situation. In the midrange, the Nikon D600 is a digital
photography workhorse, and allows for full-frame
images. On the lower end, the Nikon D5200 makes our
list for its high ISO and 5 frames per second capabilities.

4. A Variety of Lenses
Just as important as the camera you use is the lens you
attach to it. The kind of lens you carry will determine
the kind of pictures you’ll be able to take. We suggest
carrying:
A wide-angle lens to capture
large swaths of land.
A telephoto lens to narrow in
on distant mountain passes.
A standard 55mm lens for
everyday shots.

Lens filters allow for greater control, allowing
photographers to filter out light and atmospheric
conditions that would negatively affect their images.
Polarizing filters reduce sun glare and are ideal for
photographing bright, snowy landscapes and on the
water.
UV filters filter out atmospheric haze and are ideal for
use on warm, humid days.
Natural density filters allow for greater control over
aperture and shutter speed.

6. A Tripod
When shooting landscapes, it’s imperative that you use a a
tripod heavy enough to hold the weight of your camera,
lens, and flash. Tripods eliminate
camera shake, enabling
photographers to take the
sharpest photos possible.
