  1. The VeriChip implant is the first FDA cleared RIFD microchip that is able to be implanted in humans. This has opened up a new realm of scientific technology that can be used for the betterment of the world’s peoples.
  2. During the events of September 11, 2001 New York firemen wrote their badge ID numbers on their chests incase they were found injured or unconscious. Theses events showed how badly there was a need for personal information in crisis situations.The VeriChip corporation was created in December 2001 as a wholly owned subsidiary in order to produce and market an implantable chip which could identify patients in an emergency situation.In 2004 the VeriChip microchip received clearance from the FDA. Since then many people have chosen to be implanted and leading medical centers such as Beth Israel Deaconess and Hackensack University have agreed to use the technology in their emergency departments.
  3. Radio frequency identification (RFID) refers to the technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify an individual. The reader generates an electromagnetic field through its antenna. Once the tag enters the detection area, it becomes active when receiving a signal through its own antenna. This signal is used to turn on the tag's transmitter and allows the tag to communicate and exchange information with the reader. The reader then transmits the data to a computer or server for processing and management. The reader can generate a field that ranges form a few inches to 100 feet depending on the power output and radio frequency used.The tags can vary in size and shape and can be defined as either active or passive. Active RFID tags are powered by an internal battery and contain read/write functions which allow their data to be modified. Passive RFID tags rely on power generated by the reader rather than an internal battery.
  4. Health Link utilizes a passive RFID chip which contains a unique 16 digit personal identification number. This identification number can be used by hospitals to identify a patient and access his or her health records and emergency contact information, allowing patients to be treated quickly and safely in an emergency. Personal medical and emergency contact information can easily be updated through Health Link’s secure online database. Unlike conventional methods of identification, the health link cannot be lost or stolen.
  5. One potential application of a bio-sensor system is an implantable bio-sensing RFID microchip to measure glucose levels in the human body. In late 2007 VeriChip Corporation entered into an agreement with RECEPTORS LLC, an expert in the field of proteomics and the development of artificial receptors to develop a prototype renewable glucose sensor to use in conjunction with an implantable bio-sensing RFID microchip to measure glucose levels in the human body. RECEPTORS has successfully completed Phase I of the project. In Phase I, RECEPTORS LLC successfully prepared prototype examples for both the glucose-selective binding environment and the glucose-competitive signaling component.  These critical components were used to demonstrate the bench-top format application of the glucose-sensing system to the detection of glucose levels. This demonstration is the proof-of-concept foundation of the glucose-sensing system. 
  6. A passive RFID consists of:-Tissue bonding cap made from special plastic which covers the hermetically sealed glass capsulecontaining the RFID circuitry. The plastic is designed to bond with human tissue and prevent the capsule from moving around once it has been inserted.-Antenna. The coils of the antenna turn the reader’s varying magnetic field into current to power the passive chip. The coil is coupled to a capacitor to form a circuit that resonates at 134 kilohertz.-ID chip. The chip modulates the going through the antenna to continuously repeat a 128 bit signal. The bits are represented by a change in amplitude- low to high or high to low. An analysis by JohnathanWesthuse of Cambridge, Mass., indicated that only 32 of the bits varied between any two VeriChips. The rest of the bits probably tell the reader when the loop starts and may also contain some error-checking or correction data.The VeriChip is typically inserted between the shoulder and elbow on an arm using a large needle.
  7. Religious Mark of the beast Some Christians have come out against the device, as there is a Biblical prophecy where all persons must receive the Mark of the Beast"in their right hand or in their foreheads", described in Book of Revelation 13:16-18, to participate in economic activity under the government of the Antichrist. This concern is compounded by the fact that, according to a recent ABC News article, there have been reports of other chips being implanted in patients' right hands. However, the chip has also been seen being implanted in the left arm or hand as well as other areas. It is often surmised that the sixteen digits in the chip stand for the last digits of 616 the original Mark of the Beast. The Greek word Charagma (which stands for 666) describes the piercing bite of a snake, which is akin to using a needle to place the device under your skin.-Body Sanctity In addition, there are various religions and sects which abhor the penetration of the human body, as with surgery or the implantation of devices. An implanted VeriChip violates the morals of such groups.HealthAccording to Wired News online, and the Associated Press, there have been research articles over the last ten years that found a connection between the chips and possible cancer. When mice and rats were injected with glass-encapsulated RFID transponders, like those made by VeriChip, they "developed malignant, fast-growing, lethal cancers in up to 1% to 10% of cases" at the site at which the microchip was injected or to which it had migrated. However, the 10% rate was obtained with hemizygous p53-deficient mice, the counterpart of humans with the Li-Fraumenisyndrome, and rates near 1% were more typical. The VeriChip corporation responded to this report, which caused a 40% drop in their stock value, by stating that rodent data had been provided to the FDA and did not reflect the effect of the chips in humans or pets. Rather, rodent foreign body sarcomagenesis is a unique reaction, as evidenced by the publication of only two isolated cases from the large number of dogs subjected to chip implantation. Induction of sarcomas by foreign bodies has been reported in humans,and has been described as analogous to rodent foreign body-associated sarcomas, but occurring rarely. Resolution of the question may be hindered by the long delay in onset of rare effects, as in the case of other medical controversies regarding foreign objects such as the breast implant controversy and the risk of non-occupational asbestos exposure.
  8. Sensors in locks and electronics can recognize an implanted chip to automatically unlock or turn on devices.Chips can include a GPS device allowing a person to be located and tracked. (ExcludingVeriChips)Chips can be used similar to an EZ-Pass for payment instead of credit cards.
