7. Technological Singularity
• As per Wiki, “It is an Hypothetical Event in which artificial intelligence would be capable
of recursive self improvement or autonomously building ever smarter and more
powerful machines than itself, up to the point of a runaway effect that yields an
intelligence surpassing all current human control or understanding”.
• Some of the well known futurists and artificial intelligence experts predicts it to occur
around 2040 and if it happens, the events may become unpredictable or even
unfathomable for human intelligence.
8. Technological Singularity(cont’d)
• In 2009, at a conference hosted by AAAI, it was noted that self-awareness by robots is probably
unlikely.
• Researchers are still not 100% sure about the degree of autonomy that these robots might acquire
and this remains the major worrying factor.
• By 2010 the main problem in the advancement in AI was the inability of the super intelligent
machines to make “High-quality” decisions.
• Notable computer scientists and leading robotic researchers believe that artificial intelligence
could pose a threat to humanity and some believe it to be a greater threat than nukes.
9. Driverless Car
• There are around 5.5 million car crashes per year in the U.S., 81% which are caused
by human error.
• The average American driver files a collision insurance claim every 17.9 years.
• Disadvantages of Driverless Cars:
Driverless cars will led to reduction in jobs for taxis and freight transportation.
In-built software is vulnerable for malicious attack.
There is always a concern about the software getting hacked and privacy concerns, as these
cars rely more on collecting and sharing user location data.
10. Driverless Car(cont’d)
• Below are the scenarios where self-driving cars fail:
Heavy Rain
Snowy Roads
Traffic Signals
Natural calamities such as earthquakes
Ambiguity in ethics
• In the event of a crash, there is no legal precedent as to who’s
responsible for the crash.
