1. Question 1Question 1
Evaluation.
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
2. Our genre was independent films, which was import when we had to plan our
work as we needed to know what was important to include when planning.
The always include;
A young protagonist and someone in which the audience can feel sorry for in a
certain way.
A form of a cliff hanger.
The order of titles to be appealing.
Limited dialogue
Limited location shots.
Story line being focused on the young protagonist.
After looking at some filming techniques commonly used in independent films
we thought that would go on to establish certain conventions for the
independent film we felt more confident in applying this to our own
‘independent film’ opening. Looking on shots was a technique I think could
work well in establishing the lack of excitement and simple lifestyle of our
young protagonist when filming as we introduce our character by walking
through a grave yard.
3. Juno- A independent film.Juno- A independent film.
Juno is a perfect example of the character as she is not glamorous
and this contradicts most common films where the girl is perfect in
looks, although this does stick to our genre. In the Juno opening
sequence there is a happy song which makes the audience get a feel
of the character is feeling so we decided to put a slow song in our
opening sequence so the audience get a feel of sad emotion in which
our character is feeling.
This title follows the conventions of our genre.
4. How does our opening scene fit withHow does our opening scene fit with
the conventions?the conventions?
We tried our best to fit our sequence to match the conventions, for a start we
put sad music to help our character have sympathy so the audience feels the
emotion. Also we have stuck to a simple story line in which most
independent films do so from the start you get a straight forward
understanding of what's going on, our character is plain and simple as well
fitting to the conventions so our audience will more likely be able to relate
to our character.
The order of our title flow like they do in independent films fitting with the
conventions.
We also used minimum dialogue in our task and focused on the music
which is another part that matches and fits the conventions of our genre.
Also our sequence fits as we are following our character through her acts of
daily life which is common in independent films.
5. GenreGenre
We decided on independent genre as this type of
genre is becoming less common now and we
thought this could be an opportunity to help it
become more recognised again. As we done a
horror genre for our preliminary task we want to
try some thing different in order to get a feel of how
different genres vary and the different ideas and
conventions which change throughout genres. This
gave us an extra opportunity to show off some
more skills which we didn’t use in our preliminary
task.
6. How our opening scene didn’tHow our opening scene didn’t
fit the conventions.fit the conventions.
There were certain elements in which our opening sequence didn’t fit the
genre of independent and its conventions, for a start our task shows the
sad part of the whole story line at the start of the film where as in typical
independent films the opening scene is quite jolly. This also applies to our
character as although our character was different to other genre
characters by wearing normal clothes the emotion didn’t fit the genre as
normally independent characters come across as different and happy but
ours was normal and sad.
Our titles didn’t quite match the genre as in common opening sequences
the writing is all in one colour and plain where as ours is bold and in
different colours, we done this to make the writing of our titles
representing love.
