SELF-MANAGEMENT ROLES
At different times throughout the day, small groups will be called upon
to do work.
Each group manages its interactions: discussions, time, and reports.
We suggest dividing the following roles among you. We also
encourage you to rotate them with each activity.
 FACILITATOR – assures each person that wants to speak is heard
within time available. Keeps the group on track to finish their task
on time.
 TIMEKEEPER – Keeps the group aware of the time left. Monitors
report-outs and signals time remaining to the person talking.
 RECORDER – Writes the group’s output on flip charts, using the
speaker’s words. Asks people to restate long ideas briefly.
REPORTER – Delivers reports to the large group in time allotted.
1.Discovery of Strength’s and Opportunities–Themes
Purpose
To identify strengths, successes, talents and resources the people in this
room bring to the CCT’s communications aim.
Dream about the opportunities for success within our grasp.
Positive Questions
1. What are we most proud of as an organization? How does that
reflect our greatest strength?
2. What is our proudest achievement in the last year or two?
3. How do we use our strengths to get results?
4. How do we make sense of opportunities provided by the
external forces and trends?
5. What are the top three opportunities on which we should focus
our efforts?
6. How can we reframe challenges to be seen as exciting
opportunities?

Reporter
Be prepared with a report of story themes from your table and be
ready to share with the larger group the information from your flip chart
and your table group.
2.Aspiration Statement
Purpose
To begin imagining the future you want by using your creativity.
Unexpected innovations often come from using the creative side of our
nature.
Steps- Answer the Following Questions
1. When we explore our values and aspirations, "what are we
deeply passionate about?"
2. What strategic initiatives (i.e. projects, programs, and processes)
would support our aspirations?
With the answers to the above questions, create an aspiration
statement. Aspiration statements are:
a) Narrative statements proposing the ideal
b) Grown out of the stories from the themes
c) Stated in the affirmative, using vivid positive imagery and verbs in
the present tense
d) Created to provoke action
3.Results – Create Action Plan
Purpose
Considering our Strengths, Opportunities, and Aspirations, create an
action plan for your team identifying 1 year, 3 year, and 5 year goals.
Create initial action steps that begin and can be accomplished in the
next 30 day to 90 days.
1. What meaningful measures would indicate that we are on track
to achieving our goals?
2. What resources are needed to implement our most vital
projects?
