Atkins’ UK design director, Philip Watson, gave a presentation on the future for higher education in the digital age. He covered topics including the importance of meeting current challenges and looking beyond now to tomorrow, the likely differences in requirement needs, the challenges of meeting demand, future proofing teaching, learning and research spaces, optimising land and building asset use, and affordable, sustainable design best practice. This presentation was first delivered in London in September 2014. The NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Higher Education Edition is a collaborative effort between the NMC and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI). This 14th edition describes annual findings from the NMC Horizon Project, an ongoing research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in education. Six key trends, six significant challenges, and six important developments in educational technology are placed directly in the context of their likely impact on the core missions of universities and colleges. The three key sections of this report constitute a reference and straightforward technology-planning guide for educators, higher education leaders, administrators, policymakers, and technologists. It is our hope that this research will help to inform the choices that institutions are making about technology to improve, support, or extend teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in higher education across the globe. All of the topics were selected by an expert panel that represented a range of backgrounds and perspectives. Download the report at: http://cdn.nmc.org/media/2017-nmc-horizon-report-he-EN.pdf

Covid-19 and the departure of the UK from the European Union are widely viewed as a ‘perfect storm’ for UK universities, leading to a calamitous decline in international enrolments from both Europe and beyond. Transnational education (TNE) has been increasingly seen as providing a solution, by educating students at lower cost in their home countries. This presentation discusses the scope for TNE to address the challenges posed by Covid-19 and Brexit.

Is your wireless infrastructure ready for bring your own device? There are many ways to enable BYOD on your network, but have you considered using eduroam to enable this? Within Higher Education eduroam is a ‘best seller’. This session will give an insight into why eduroam is the solution for enabling BYOD on your network, sharing the experiences of providers in Wales and giving a viewpoint of eduroam usage in Wales. The Jisc Regional Support Centre Wales has worked with Further Education colleges in Wales to help them realise the benefits of using eduroam as their primary wireless access method and in understanding considerations which are specific to FE. With eduroam being used in the context of mergers and closer collaboration between colleges and universities.

This is a copy of my presentation to the JISC Regional Support Centre for Yorkshire & Humber on June 10th at Bradford University. The sub-title of the presentation was Beyond \"no significant difference\", on the basis that, in education, we use technology to do things the same way as we have always done rather than use it to do things differently. The theme of the presentation was that we, the teachers, rather than our students, are the technology generation. Because the use of digital technology has been completely normalised and fully integrated by our students, they don\'t see it as technology. They are the \"no technology generation\", and it is us who need to be taught how to use it in ways that engage our students and make their education relevant.
