Cultivating independence and conquering the world, maintaining respect for
local and regional identities: this is the spirit of Saint-Malo!
For over 55 years, Roullier Group has grown in accordance with its founding
values, and this growth goes hand in hand with the ability to cross borders
effortlessly.
Over the years, we have developed a network of subsidiaries in 50 countries
and steadily broadened our business lines to span the entire chain from raw
materials to the sale of plant, Animal and Plant Nutrition products. Today, we
are continuing to expand using our tried and tested philosophy of innovation
and internationalisation.
"Our history is built upon
our facilities and successive
acquisitions over half a century.
Roullier Group’s story began
in Europe, before spreading to
the Americas and Africa. Today
begins a new era of expansion
in Asia and Oceania."

WORKING TOWARDS INTERNATIONALISATION
Securing growth through the development of new markets, Roullier Group is able to capitalise on an
outstanding knowledge base, built up over the years at its various facilities. These foundations enable our
experts to quickly develop fertilisation methods adapted to each type of soil, climate or crop, particularly
in emerging African markets (Kenya, Tanzania, Senegal and Ivory Coast). In Kenya, for example, our teams
analysed the needs of specialist tea, coffee, sugar cane, horticulture, and market garden plantations. We
have thus been able to develop, alongside the leading Kenyan distributors and technical institutions, an
innovative range of products for local farmers,
perfectly suited to their crops and soil.
DANIEL ROULLIER:
THE JOURNEY OF A
BRETON INDUSTRIALIST
The Roullier Group was founded on the docks of Saint-Malo in
1959, when Daniel Roullier bought a limestone algae deposit
from which he extracted a soil conditioner. The young man
from Saint-Malo proved to be a visionary, with business in his
soul. His soil conditioner, made originally of maerl and then
maerl and phosphates, was sold by Timac, rapidly becoming
a success. Soon, the company controlled a large share of the
market, and launched an international expansion strategy.
Today, the Group employs 7,300 staff and generates an annual
turnover* of 3.1 bn euros.

7. EXPLORING EVERY ASPECT OF NUTRITION
FRESH IMPETUS ABROAD
Our Group is present in 50 countries, but significant potential for international expansion
remains in the Animal and Plant Nutrition sectors. Therefore, we are currently recruiting
managers to oversee our expansion into new markets, governed by our fundamental
values: understanding regional characteristics and local expectations, developing targeted
products and remaining close to our customers.

8. FINDING OUR PLACE ON
THE LOCAL MARKET WITH
AN AD HOC PRODUCT
Maxifruit, a liquid fertiliser for fruit crops,
was able to win over African and Middle-
Eastern markets because it was specifically
designed for them. This process of
innovation, which resulted in a fertiliser
suitable for drip irrigation systems and
adapted to the needs of local crops and
weather conditions,
is a direct result of our daily presence in
the field. Local teams guided our R&D
engineers right up to the product’s release.

9. ALWAYS BEING
WHERE WE ARE
NEEDED THE MOST
Our Group’s growth is not the result of market research. If our
products have proved to be a success, it is because they clearly
meet our customers’ needs. But, for us, this understanding
of their needs is achieved above all through a direct, personal
relationship. To understand their obstacles and expectations,
we exchange views and capitalise on practical experience.
This business concept directly impacts our Group's structure
across the globe; from France to Brazil, and China to Morocco.
The relationship takes the form of 4 million on-site visits
carried out by our 2,300 Technical Sales
Agents every year.
"Our mission is to help farmers improve their production,
in pursuit of sustainable and more profitable agriculture.
To achieve this, we base our actions on a people-focused
approach and on the innovative aspects of our industry,
with our Group offering outstanding advice to farmers and
breeders, via our sales team."

SUPPORTING OUR CUSTOMERS IN INTERNATIONAL MARKETS
Since 1985, Roullier Group has become a leading supplier of production performance solutions. Working in
professional hygiene in 40 countries, the Group is pushing ahead with its international development through
customer support, and offering its expertise in the production and marketing of hygiene and disinfection solutions
to the biggest names in farming and the food industry. In addition to opening up new markets, this strategy,
focused on excellence and accessibility, commits us to a process of continuous improvement,
both in terms of customer relations and technical skills.

us: knowing
the needs of plants."

CREATING TOMORROW’S
FARMING,
TODAY
Since we are seeking above all to provide useful solutions and technologies
which meet the real needs of our customers, our approach is to go out and
meet them on their farms.
What do they talk to us about? Yield, of course, but also how to reduce waste,
biodegradability and the use of renewable resources. Our customers want to
produce more, but also to produce better by protecting people, animals and
the environment. This is why we are concentrating all our research capacities on
eco-efficiency, such as recovering organic matter, improving the assimilation of
nutritive elements or promoting the controlled release of substances at particular
points in plant life cycle.
For 56 years we have worked towards the same objective: inventing and
testing new products and ever more innovative technologies, and applying the
principles of responsible, sustainable agriculture. The issues are worldwide,
and affect future generations. This is a global challenge, involving future
generations. This is why our investment in research has never faltered and
remains unique in the world.

12. INNOVATIONS IN PHOSPHOROUS
WITH NÉOPHOS®
In order to diversify its business, the group will be using
innovation – it’s in its DNA! With the calcium sodium
phosphate Néophos®
, the Saint-Malo factory has, after an
18-month process, developed a truly innovative product
which offers multiple benefits for manufacturers of food,
premixes and minerals. It is an opportunity to stand out in the
phosphates sector while building a special relationship with
customers.
Precious phosphates
Poultry, pigs, cattle... all livestock need phosphorus in their
diet. When added to their feed in phosphate form, it improves
both milk and meat production as well as making bones
and eggshells stronger and boosting fertility. The challenge
accomplished by our teams? Optimising current phosphate
formulae by focusing on the needs of our customers: improved
nutritional performance and ease of use in producing feed,
minerals and premix for the Animal Nutrition sector.
Feasibility, digestibility, and performance...
Néophos®
passed every test with flying colours! To confirm
the product’s industrial feasibility, in both powder and extra
fine grains, our teams worked closely with CERA (Roullier
Group’s Applied Studies and Research Centre) and INRA* on
the nutritional aspects. Officially launched in September 2013,
the product was warmly received, developing overseas too,
with sales in Europe and Latin America.
"We focus our
research on algae

room tests, as well
as agronomic field
trials. Organic matter
is at the heart of our
research."

13. UNEARTHINGALL OF NATURE’S BENEFITS
TOP-PHOS®
: INNOVATION IN SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
The fruit of seven years of R&D, Top-Phos®
is the perfect embodiment of the key values of innovation at Roullier
Group: determination, collaboration, and experimentation. From synthesis to agronomic testing, this phosphate
fertiliser has occupied both our teams and seven university laboratories located throughout Europe and South
America. A commitment that paid off handsomely: by enabling plant roots to gradually absorb the phosphate
that they need to grow, Top-Phos® is a major breakthrough in sustainable agriculture,
which requires more efficient products.
WELCOME TO THE
GLOBAL INNOVATION CENTRE
Major issues call for major resources. The Group’s Global Research & Development Centre
will soon open in the heart of Brittany, Roullier Group’s homeland.
The centre will carry out research into Plant and Animal Nutrition microbiology, hygiene
and detergents. On a 2-hectare site with 8,000m² of buildings, this vast development
will serve as an incubator for the nutritional products of the future: always striving to be
closer to needs observed around the world, and kinder to the environment.
Where all our skills converge
Our new “flagship” will encourage discussion. Intended primarily for our teams, the
five major departments of the Centre will be home to mineral physics, microbiology,
chromatography, hygiene and sampling labs. It will also be outward-looking, the ideal
place to build new partnerships with leading research organisations. A Centre that is
constantly on the boil and that will produce real-world innovation through testing and
validation processes that take place inside 800m² of plant-filled greenhouses.
14. INTERNATIONAL
MANAGEMENT
Our international development is
principally made possible by the
recruitment and development of leaders.
Locally, our managers must be able to
act independently and to work together
towards a clear vision and strategy.
That is why we pay special
attention to bicultural applicants boasting
a successful first professional experience
and expertise in a specific field. Here
again, we focus on entrepreneurial spirit,
boldness and ambition. 67% of our staff
are based outside France.
OUR CAPACITY FOR INNOVATION
THRIVES ON FRESH TALENT
Research and innovation are factors in the success of our
Group and, in these fields, creativity is just as important as
excellence. Our R&D teams always welcome talented young
doctoral students of all nationalities: they bring a fresh pair of
eyes to our work and often open up new areas of research.
They play a role in cutting edge public research, as well as
in scientific and technological fields of Plant and Animal
Nutrition. Working alongside us, they develop both their
technical expertise and their interpersonal skills, working both
as part of a team and independently, and presenting their
work at international conferences.

15. OUR MOST
PRECIOUS RESOURCE
IS THE PEOPLE
WHO WORK FOR US
There are 7,300 reasons to believe in the Group’s future,
and we will have even more in years to come. While
we invest heavily in our industrial tools, we know that
they amount to nothing without the teams that manage
them. Our strength lies in our employees’ energy and,
internationally, the intangible assets that we have
amassed in the form of knowledge, patents and skills
are now worth more than our material assets. This is
why Roullier has, since the very beginning, placed its
employees at the heart of its business structure.
"Human capital is central to the Group’s growth."
Olivier Julienne,
Director General for Human Resources Development
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: OUR ESSENTIAL VALUE
Roullier Group’s half-century success story is built upon an unrivalled human resources
policy that promotes the development and fulfilment of captains of industry.
Within the Group, age and background has no bearing on career development: our young
managers are rapidly given major responsibilities if they have a taste for commitment and the
drive to succeed. With this policy, our procedures and methods enable us to identify talent, to
nurture entrepreneurs, and to support them as they develop.
16. "Roullier Group would be
nothing without its factories,
and in spite of the current
trend to close plants, we keep
ours working and look for
ways to constantly improve
our existing facilities while
acquiring new ones."
Daniel Roullier,
Supervisory Board President
UNDERSTANDING
INDUSTRY
Roullier Group’s history and identity are based on industry. Its industrial capital
that takes the form of highly efficient equipment, is the result of constant
movement through external growth or developments. It has been at the heart
of our strategy for over 55 years. But seeing ourselves as an industrial group,
in the noblest sense, does not mean simply acquiring factories: it is first and
foremost a question of mentality. Innovation, investment, technology, human
capital... These values have always formed an integral part of our culture,
regardless of passing trends. We add a vital concept: the relocation of industrial
facilities to be near raw materials and markets. We may think globally, but we
always act locally.
18. THE GRANULATION FACTORY
IN SAINT-MALO:
THE DRIVE TO SET
AN ENVIRONMENTAL EXAMPLE
Built in 1972, the fertiliser plant in Saint-Malo includes two
production units and is symbolic of our history and our
commitment to environmental protection.
The plant is fitted with a wood-burning boiler to meet its
industrial heat and steam needs. At every step of the process,
it has sleeve filters and a dust clearing system that captures all
production-related emissions.
From cleaning the gas generated by the production of
superphosphates developed by CERA*, to processing
wastewater in a confinement and recycling tank, the
Saint-Malo plant carefully controls its environmental impact.
Across the two Saint-Malo facilities, 400 tonnes of industrial
waste are sorted and recycled every year. In this way, the
factory recovers all material waste produced by its activity.
"Once our industrial
potential has been
analysed, we then
need to examine our
ability to overcome
new challenges:
how can we produce
more and better,
whilst meeting
environmental,
health, social,human,
and economic
requirements?"
Javier Creixell Catalan,
General Manager,
Magnesitas Navarras (Spain)

19. RECOVERING NATURAL MINERAL RESOURCES
CERA*, AN INSTRUMENT FOR INNOVATION
Based in Dinard (France), CERA embodies the Group’s desire to bring all of its research into
industrial processes together under one roof, using it to further its business lines and promote
synergy between our teams. The Centre is the only one of its kind in the entire world, and
includes an analysis lab and integrated pilot plant which is a scaled down modular replica of an
operational plant. Working closely with our Global Innovation Centre,
it develops new products, works to improve existing processes
and identifies good industrial practices.

A LOCAL CONNECTION
AT EVERY FACILITY
Because industry supplied by local companies drives the local economy, Roullier Group is
committed to building links with local companies in the countries where it does business.
In Lodosa (Spain), our site works closely with 25 local stakeholders on average, thereby
becoming a de facto pillar of the local economy.
This regional reindustrialisation ensures that the Group remains close to its raw materials,
which has a positive impact on both production costs and environmental impact, as well
as on the culture and characteristics of the local market. No two models are exactly the
same; at Roullier, expanding and adapting go hand in hand.
20. HEALTHY PRODUCTION
IS GOOD PRODUCTION
What do all of these specialist food industry companies have
in common? A sincere passion for traditional skills, and a series
of commitments with a single goal in mind: to make good
products, in every sense of the word.
- Think local and share our love of our region
- Strive to constantly improve the nutritional profile and natural
character of our products (removing artificial additives,
preservatives, colourings and flavourings, and flavour
enhancers, etc.)
- Find innovative and practical solutions to meet the needs of
people of all ages, taking food intolerances into account
- Providing complete transparency on our processes and labels

OUR ROOTS
21. TO MOVE FORWARD,
WE MUST GO BACK
TO BASICS
Human nutrition, within our Group, reflects both our
origins and what we stand for. Working from the heart
of Brittany, our subsidiaries combine artisan expertise
with industrial production to create products that reflect
the region’s character. From pastries to seafood, these
decisions are part of our commitment to the use of local
resources and sustainable farming and fishing. Taking
action to produce food that is both healthy and tasty:
this is also part of being a responsible company
in our region.
We produce delicious, succulent, gourmet cakes
using healthy, natural ingredients.
Our customers’ satisfaction
and enjoyment is our obsession!
Mickaël Le Jossec,
President,
Pâtisseries Gourmandes
FROM MARINE TECHNOLOGY TO NUTRITIONAL INNOVATION
The use of marine resources is one of our Group’s traditional areas of expertise, and is an essential source
of innovation. The skills and experience earned in algae-based Plant Nutrition, and the research projects
launched with prestigious food industry partners, have enabled us to develop new nutritional solutions, first
in Animal Nutrition, and then for people, too. The properties of these resources taken from the sea,
rich in trace elements, proteins, and minerals, enable our specialist subsidiaries to offer manufacturers
innovative ingredients that really stand out and make a difference.
They are a real source of added value for our customers!
