It’s our year-end wrap-up issue of Inside Perspectives for the MEDITECH community and we
have lots to share with you.
First, we welcome August Calhoun, the recently appointed Vice President of Dell Healthcare
and Life Science Services, who reiterates the company’s commitment towards helping our
MEDITECH customers achieve their healthcare delivery and patient safety goals in the coming
year.
In his Message from Management, Peter Stone, Vice President and General Manager of the
MEDITECH Solutions Group within Dell Services, presents his view on cloud computing
strategies and invites you all to learn more about Dell’s Unified Clinical Archive solution
which will be showcased at the upcoming RSNA 2011 conference and tradeshow in Chicago.
Carrick Carpenter, General Manager, Managed Services and Technology Integration, MEDITECH
Solutions Group, also gives us his take on Cloud Computing and encourages health system
executives to rethink their conventional image of IT infrastructure. You can learn more in his
article titled “Cloud Computing Comes to Healthcare.”
And if Cloud Computing is a hot topic in healthcare IT, so is Accountable Care Organizations
(ACO). Since the CMS released the final guidelines for creating an ACO late October, 2011,
many questions remain unanswered and much is to be learned before the guidelines are fully
understood. In this issue, Betsy Block, our resident expert and Director of Dell Services’ ACO
Consulting Solutions Group, sorts out some of the misconceptions and answers some of the
most frequently asked questions about ACOs.
We are always eager to share our customer success stories, and in this issue, we present FHN
Healthcare System’s (Freeport, IL) progress towards EHR. Dell Services’ consulting team was
delighted to be involved in coaching the executive management team, setting expectations,
and helping create the governance and physician leadership required to smoothly transform
systems and processes to achieve their EHR goals.
