WORK EXPERIENCE
2004 to Present Cymbaline Solutions Ltd
Cymbaline Solutions is my own company, founded in 2004 with the aim of providing Senior Test and QA Management
specialising in the definition of test policy as well as test management and test team leadership. I also have extensive
experience in, requirements,change,defectand release management and software developmentprocess improvements.
As a freelance principal consultant for Cymbaline Solutions, I have worked for the following clients:
February 2013 to Present: Programme Test Manager – University of Oxford
I am currently working as the Programme TestManager for the StudentSystem Programme (SSP), within the IT Division
of the University of Oxford. The Student Systems Programme is responsible for delivering the development of Oxford’s
IT-based systems used by academic and administrative staff, applicants and students in support of many aspects of
teaching and learning. The systems are primarily developed on Tribal SITS:Vision, e:Vision and Microsoft Dynamics
platforms with interfaces handled by Biztalk.
As the Programme Test Manager I am responsible for the overarching test strategy, test planning and management
across all projects within the programme. I have successfully recruited and managed a team of 14 permanent and
contract resources as well as managing 3 separate 3rd
party suppliers in order to complete over 11,000 formal testscripts
managed in HP ALM Quality Centre. I have overseen the programme through the Integration Testing, System Testing,
Link and Interface Testing, Systems Integration Test (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Operational Acceptance
Testing (OAT), Load & Performance (L&P), Data Migration Testing and Security and Penetration (S&P) test phases. In
addition to managing the testing through each testphase m yrole has also included the managementof all defects raised
across the programme and the allocation and priority of those defects via daily defect triage meetings.
July 2012 to January 2013: Functional Test Manager – Capgemini (SC Security Clearance)
Capgemini are the prime contractors for the Aspire project to deliver a high profile set of solutions to the HM Revenue &
Customs (HMRC). My role was based in the SAP Centre of Excellence in Worthing where a series of transformational
SAP solutions are being developed to update and improve taxation systems inline with government policy. As the
Functional Test Manager I was responsible for the system and integration testing of multiple projects within a series of
well-defined and strictreleases ofthe overall programme using an Agile methodology.I worked on the following releases:
 October ’12 Release: The October release of the system introduced major changes to allow for the monthly
processing of PAYE Returns and payments, as well as further functionality to manage VAT and Machine Gaming
Tax.
 April ’13 Release. The April release of the system introduced Real-time Information (RTI), which allows HMRC to
collect information about tax and other deductions each time employers run their payroll.
September 2007 to June 2012: Test Consultant – NHS London Ambulance Service
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) is the UK’s busiest ambulance service receiving over 1.5 million calls a year.
During my time at the LAS I was responsible for defining and setting up the organizational test policy inline with an ITIL
project environment. This included the creation and board level approval of the test and acceptance strategy, the
specification and installation ofthe purpose builttestenvironment,the evaluation and implementation ofthe test tools and
the recruitment,training and managementof the testteam. I also managed the full functional and non-functional testing of
three major concurrent projects including: CTAK, the services legacy Call Taking and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)
system and the replacement CAD system (CommandPointTM
).
 CommandPointTM
is a COTS CAD system developed by Northrop Grumman for use by all emergency services. I
evaluated the test solutions proposed by each of the potential suppliers. I then developed and implemented the
overarching Test and Acceptance Strategy. Having reviewed the suppliers’ internal system test procedures and
results Iled a team of 5 testers and subjectmatter experts to review, witness and document the Facto ry Acceptance
Testing (FAT) and the System Performance Testing (SPT), of the new systems functionality and performance at the
suppliers premises in Chantilly, Virginia. Following 4 iterations of FAT I managed the Site Integration Testing (SIT)
of the system to validate the external systems and telephony interfaces against simulators and eventually live
interfaces.Upon completion ofthe SIT, I developed and managed the full User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process. I
was also involved with an additional System Performance Test phase conducted on site using purpose built
simulators and scripts to capture and play back live data into the system at increased speeds to measure the CPU
usage,disk and memoryutilisation ofthe middle-tier and back-end servers to stress them at contractual loads and
beyond. Following completion ofall test phases myfinal testreport was used by the trust board to aid the final go/no

go decision and the subsequent successful deployment of the services biggest and most complex IT system.
 CTAK (Call Taking System) is a legacy bespoke call taking system receiving calls via an Avaya Network Switch.The
CTAK Enhancementprojectextended the life of the CTAK system by including manyadditional features required by
the users and additional functionality with the specific aim of reducing ambulance response . I wrote and
implemented a teststrategy to validate a series ofplanned releases ofthe system and then managed those release.
August 2004 to November 2006: Test Consultant – EDS (SC Security Clearance)
The former Joint and Maritime System groups within EDS Defence were combined in January 2004 to form the
Command Support Group. My role as a Test Consultant within the group was initially to define and deploy a common
programme level test strategy and a set of test tools across all of the projects within the group. The two largest projects
within this group were the Joint Operational Command System (JOCS) and the Royal Navy Command Support System
(CSS). Following successful deployment of the test strategy and test tools I stayed on in a Test Management role to
oversee the testing and acceptance of version 5.0 of JOCS, this included:
 The definition of a group level Test and Acceptance process that is consistent with the generic EDS methodology
and the customer (MoD) requirements for Test and Acceptance. Following approval of the test strategy I managed
the training and rollout of the strategy and production of supporting materials such as training courses, document
templates and guidelines
 Configuration and rolloutofthe Rational TestManager tool and integration of the tool with the other Rational tools for
Requirements and Change Management.
 Test Management of the major project within the group. The project is a Windows OS and database refresh of a
complete militarysystem consisting oflocked down infrastructure,numerous COTS applications with added security,
secure messaging and several bespoke applications with an Oracle backend running on UNIX servers.
2006 to 2007: Cerner Ltd
Cerner is the leading U.S. supplier of healthcare solutions that optimises clinical and financial outcomes.
Nov 2006 to Aug 2007: Senior Test Manager – London Cluster Project
As The Senior Test Manager for the London Cluster I was responsible for the following:
 Overall Test Managementof the London Cluster Programme including managing a test team consisting of over 35
testers via 3 Test Managers
 Defining the overall Test Strategy for all test phases across all planned releases and getting the strategy approved
by the prime contractor
 Recruiting, building and training the test team
 Managing a test support team to support testing activity conducted and managed directly by the prime contractors
2000 to 2004: ImagoQA
Imago is a specialist IT Consultancy with a total focus on Software Testing and associated professional services. As a
Test Consultant for Imago I was required to work for a number of different organisations. This involved the ability to be
able to quickly come up to speed with new and diverse businesses and company cultures. I worked on the following
assignments during my time with Imago:
July 2004 to August 2004: Test Manager – Energis
I worked as the TestManager on the ISP Broadband Projectthat enables UK Consumer InternetService Providers (such
as AOL and Wanadoo) to deliver Broadband Internet Access to their end-users. I was responsible for the high-level
planning of the test and acceptance stages of the project and setting up the initial strategy, plans and test schedule.
February 2001 to July 2004: Test Consultant – Airbus
As a Test Consultant for Airbus I created and implemented a programme level generic test strategy that I successfully
deployed to all Engineering divisions with Airbus in the UK, Germany, France and Spain. I also introduced a number of
software developmentprocess improvements and tool implementations to provide common requirements , change and
defect management as well as test automation. I was additionally responsible for the overall system and acceptance
testing of all software developed by the Engineering division in the UK. These applications include Computer Aided
Design tools and Configuration Management tools running on SUN and HP UNIX workstations and many additional
COTS and bespoke applications used within the organisation running on Windows NT and 2000 platforms. My role at
Airbus included the following specific responsibilities:
 Developed a generic teststrategy, teststandards,checklists and templates and implemented them acro ss all Airbus
National companies in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Subsequently integrated the strategy with the
companies own software development methodology
 Management and design of value creation projects in all major Airbus National Companies to i ntroduce the use of
new processes and tools throughoutthe software developmentlifecycle to supportthe Airbus Software Development
Methodology and Generic Test Strategy. These included a code and change managementprocess using Rational’s
Unified Change Management(ClearCase and ClearQuest) rolled out to approximately 100 software developers and
providing incident reporting and monitoring to over 3,000 end users via a web front end
 Production of Test Plans for individual software developmentprojects and co-ordinating the preparation of test data,
test scripts and environments along with the control and monitoring of the testing activities

January 2001: Test Consultant – Proposal to lastminute.com
I was responsible for undertaking the initial study at lastminute.com to evaluate the existing testing and release
management procedures, and produce a proposal recommending process improvements.
October 2000 to November 2000: Test Manager – CSC-Vybe
I worked as a TestManager for an e-commerce solutions provider developing a B2B web site. I was responsible for the
complete system testing of the entire project and the management of the test team.
September 2000 to October 2000: Test Analyst – Merrill-Lynch/HSBC
I worked as a Test Analyst for a major investment bank producing user acceptance test scripts and assisting with the
planning of the user acceptance testing for a large on-line trading and banking system.
1993 – 2000: EDS (Now HP) – DV Security Clearance
I joined EDS as a systems engineer after leaving University and gradually moved from development through integration
and testing to team leading and finally Test Management. I worked on the following projects during my time at EDS:
September 1999 to August 2000: Test and Integration Team Leader – FDPS2 Project
The Flight Data Processing System 2 (FDPS2) supports NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Air Traffic Controllers in the
provision of Air Traffic Services. The project was ran to CMMI level 3. As Test and Integration Team Leader I was
responsible for leading a team of 7 test engineers and ensuring the following tasks were completed:
 Building and configuring a test rig representative of the final system
 Developmentof a testing strategy and procedures and ensuring the testing progresses according to the test plans
 Co-ordinate the running of over 15,000 system and acceptance test cases
August 1997 to September 1999: Test Manager – Morocco Project
Real time Information gathering and analysis system running on a DIGITAL UNIX and NT platform. The system consists
of a central Informix database running on UNIX with additional C++, Visual BASIC, MS-Access applications and COTS
packages running on NT4.0. As Test manager I was responsible for:
 Developing and implementing the project test strategy
 The acceptance of software delivered by third parties
 The System and Acceptance Level Testing for the entire system conducted on MoD customer sites
February 1997 to August 1997: Test Engineer - GP3 Project
GP3 is a Command and Control system for the British Army running on a Windows NT network, written in Delphi and
jointly developed by Data Sciences UK Limited (now part of IBM) and EDS. Its primary function is the real time mapping
of Friendly and EnemyMilitary Features and Force Elements. As a member ofthe GP3 Test Team I was responsible for:
 Testing each build and maintaining fault reports and feeding comments and suggestions back to the developers
 Running Acceptance Tests with the customer and producing Test Logs of the customers comments
September 1993 to February 1997: System Engineer - IRIS Project
IRIS is an X.400 Tactical Message Handling System (TMHS) for the Canadian Department of Defence running on
bespoke ruggedized UNIX machines. As a member of the TMHS Integration and Test team (September 1993 to August
1997) I was responsible for:
 Coding one of the main modules in Ada using Rational Apex running on a Sun UNIX workstation
 Writing and executing acceptance tests based on the requirements specification and delivery of software builds to
the customer in Calgary, including installation and configuration of software and the running of acceptance tests
 Automation of testing by converting test cases and acceptance tests to Mercury XRunner scripts
1991 – 1992: I.C.I. Chemicals and Polymers (BSc Industrial Placement Year)
As a Computer Applications Engineer Iworked as a member ofthe software production team designing & implementing a
Laboratory Information System using the Yourdon methodology in DECDesign and implemented in VAX FORTRAN.
1984 – 1987: Courtaulds
I worked as a Computer Programmer in the Industrial Engineering department of a large textiles plant. This involved the
development of Management Information Systems to measure factory productivity & quality on an Apple IIe.
HOBBIES / INTERESTS
2010 – Present: Vice President Hampshire Skeptics Society
I am the Vice Presidentof the Hampshire Skeptics Society,a non-profitorganisation for the promotion of science, reason
and critical thinking in Hampshire and the UK. As Vice President of the society I organise monthly science talks and
lectures by eminentscientists and broadcasters atthe Winchester DiscoveryCentre. Monthly meeting are attended by up
to 180 people. I also give talks and lectures to other groups around the country.

WORK EXPERIENCE 2004 to Present Cymbaline Solutions Ltd Cymbaline Solutions is my own company, founded in 2004 with the aim of providing Senior Test and QA Management specialising in the definition of test policy as well as test management and test team leadership. I also have extensive experience in, requirements,change,defectand release management and software developmentprocess improvements. As a freelance principal consultant for Cymbaline Solutions, I have worked for the following clients: February 2013 to Present: Programme Test Manager – University of Oxford I am currently working as the Programme TestManager for the StudentSystem Programme (SSP), within the IT Division of the University of Oxford. The Student Systems Programme is responsible for delivering the development of Oxford’s IT-based systems used by academic and administrative staff, applicants and students in support of many aspects of teaching and learning. The systems are primarily developed on Tribal SITS:Vision, e:Vision and Microsoft Dynamics platforms with interfaces handled by Biztalk. As the Programme Test Manager I am responsible for the overarching test strategy, test planning and management across all projects within the programme. I have successfully recruited and managed a team of 14 permanent and contract resources as well as managing 3 separate 3rd party suppliers in order to complete over 11,000 formal testscripts managed in HP ALM Quality Centre. I have overseen the programme through the Integration Testing, System Testing, Link and Interface Testing, Systems Integration Test (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Operational Acceptance Testing (OAT), Load & Performance (L&P), Data Migration Testing and Security and Penetration (S&P) test phases. In addition to managing the testing through each testphase m yrole has also included the managementof all defects raised across the programme and the allocation and priority of those defects via daily defect triage meetings. July 2012 to January 2013: Functional Test Manager – Capgemini (SC Security Clearance) Capgemini are the prime contractors for the Aspire project to deliver a high profile set of solutions to the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC). My role was based in the SAP Centre of Excellence in Worthing where a series of transformational SAP solutions are being developed to update and improve taxation systems inline with government policy. As the Functional Test Manager I was responsible for the system and integration testing of multiple projects within a series of well-defined and strictreleases ofthe overall programme using an Agile methodology.I worked on the following releases:  October ’12 Release: The October release of the system introduced major changes to allow for the monthly processing of PAYE Returns and payments, as well as further functionality to manage VAT and Machine Gaming Tax.  April ’13 Release. The April release of the system introduced Real-time Information (RTI), which allows HMRC to collect information about tax and other deductions each time employers run their payroll. September 2007 to June 2012: Test Consultant – NHS London Ambulance Service The London Ambulance Service (LAS) is the UK’s busiest ambulance service receiving over 1.5 million calls a year. During my time at the LAS I was responsible for defining and setting up the organizational test policy inline with an ITIL project environment. This included the creation and board level approval of the test and acceptance strategy, the specification and installation ofthe purpose builttestenvironment,the evaluation and implementation ofthe test tools and the recruitment,training and managementof the testteam. I also managed the full functional and non-functional testing of three major concurrent projects including: CTAK, the services legacy Call Taking and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and the replacement CAD system (CommandPointTM ).  CommandPointTM is a COTS CAD system developed by Northrop Grumman for use by all emergency services. I evaluated the test solutions proposed by each of the potential suppliers. I then developed and implemented the overarching Test and Acceptance Strategy. Having reviewed the suppliers’ internal system test procedures and results Iled a team of 5 testers and subjectmatter experts to review, witness and document the Facto ry Acceptance Testing (FAT) and the System Performance Testing (SPT), of the new systems functionality and performance at the suppliers premises in Chantilly, Virginia. Following 4 iterations of FAT I managed the Site Integration Testing (SIT) of the system to validate the external systems and telephony interfaces against simulators and eventually live interfaces.Upon completion ofthe SIT, I developed and managed the full User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process. I was also involved with an additional System Performance Test phase conducted on site using purpose built simulators and scripts to capture and play back live data into the system at increased speeds to measure the CPU usage,disk and memoryutilisation ofthe middle-tier and back-end servers to stress them at contractual loads and beyond. Following completion ofall test phases myfinal testreport was used by the trust board to aid the final go/no

Curriculum Vitae: Crispian Jago _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Last Updated: 10th February 2015 Page 3 of 4 go decision and the subsequent successful deployment of the services biggest and most complex IT system.  CTAK (Call Taking System) is a legacy bespoke call taking system receiving calls via an Avaya Network Switch.The CTAK Enhancementprojectextended the life of the CTAK system by including manyadditional features required by the users and additional functionality with the specific aim of reducing ambulance response . I wrote and implemented a teststrategy to validate a series ofplanned releases ofthe system and then managed those release. August 2004 to November 2006: Test Consultant – EDS (SC Security Clearance) The former Joint and Maritime System groups within EDS Defence were combined in January 2004 to form the Command Support Group. My role as a Test Consultant within the group was initially to define and deploy a common programme level test strategy and a set of test tools across all of the projects within the group. The two largest projects within this group were the Joint Operational Command System (JOCS) and the Royal Navy Command Support System (CSS). Following successful deployment of the test strategy and test tools I stayed on in a Test Management role to oversee the testing and acceptance of version 5.0 of JOCS, this included:  The definition of a group level Test and Acceptance process that is consistent with the generic EDS methodology and the customer (MoD) requirements for Test and Acceptance. Following approval of the test strategy I managed the training and rollout of the strategy and production of supporting materials such as training courses, document templates and guidelines  Configuration and rolloutofthe Rational TestManager tool and integration of the tool with the other Rational tools for Requirements and Change Management.  Test Management of the major project within the group. The project is a Windows OS and database refresh of a complete militarysystem consisting oflocked down infrastructure,numerous COTS applications with added security, secure messaging and several bespoke applications with an Oracle backend running on UNIX servers. 2006 to 2007: Cerner Ltd Cerner is the leading U.S. supplier of healthcare solutions that optimises clinical and financial outcomes. Nov 2006 to Aug 2007: Senior Test Manager – London Cluster Project As The Senior Test Manager for the London Cluster I was responsible for the following:  Overall Test Managementof the London Cluster Programme including managing a test team consisting of over 35 testers via 3 Test Managers  Defining the overall Test Strategy for all test phases across all planned releases and getting the strategy approved by the prime contractor  Recruiting, building and training the test team  Managing a test support team to support testing activity conducted and managed directly by the prime contractors 2000 to 2004: ImagoQA Imago is a specialist IT Consultancy with a total focus on Software Testing and associated professional services. As a Test Consultant for Imago I was required to work for a number of different organisations. This involved the ability to be able to quickly come up to speed with new and diverse businesses and company cultures. I worked on the following assignments during my time with Imago: July 2004 to August 2004: Test Manager – Energis I worked as the TestManager on the ISP Broadband Projectthat enables UK Consumer InternetService Providers (such as AOL and Wanadoo) to deliver Broadband Internet Access to their end-users. I was responsible for the high-level planning of the test and acceptance stages of the project and setting up the initial strategy, plans and test schedule. February 2001 to July 2004: Test Consultant – Airbus As a Test Consultant for Airbus I created and implemented a programme level generic test strategy that I successfully deployed to all Engineering divisions with Airbus in the UK, Germany, France and Spain. I also introduced a number of software developmentprocess improvements and tool implementations to provide common requirements , change and defect management as well as test automation. I was additionally responsible for the overall system and acceptance testing of all software developed by the Engineering division in the UK. These applications include Computer Aided Design tools and Configuration Management tools running on SUN and HP UNIX workstations and many additional COTS and bespoke applications used within the organisation running on Windows NT and 2000 platforms. My role at Airbus included the following specific responsibilities:  Developed a generic teststrategy, teststandards,checklists and templates and implemented them acro ss all Airbus National companies in the UK, France, Germany and Spain. Subsequently integrated the strategy with the companies own software development methodology  Management and design of value creation projects in all major Airbus National Companies to i ntroduce the use of new processes and tools throughoutthe software developmentlifecycle to supportthe Airbus Software Development Methodology and Generic Test Strategy. These included a code and change managementprocess using Rational’s Unified Change Management(ClearCase and ClearQuest) rolled out to approximately 100 software developers and providing incident reporting and monitoring to over 3,000 end users via a web front end  Production of Test Plans for individual software developmentprojects and co-ordinating the preparation of test data, test scripts and environments along with the control and monitoring of the testing activities

October 2000 to November 2000: Test Manager – CSC-Vybe I worked as a TestManager for an e-commerce solutions provider developing a B2B web site. I was responsible for the complete system testing of the entire project and the management of the test team. September 2000 to October 2000: Test Analyst – Merrill-Lynch/HSBC I worked as a Test Analyst for a major investment bank producing user acceptance test scripts and assisting with the planning of the user acceptance testing for a large on-line trading and banking system. 1993 – 2000: EDS (Now HP) – DV Security Clearance I joined EDS as a systems engineer after leaving University and gradually moved from development through integration and testing to team leading and finally Test Management. I worked on the following projects during my time at EDS: September 1999 to August 2000: Test and Integration Team Leader – FDPS2 Project The Flight Data Processing System 2 (FDPS2) supports NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Air Traffic Controllers in the provision of Air Traffic Services. As Test manager I was responsible for:  Developing and implementing the project test strategy  The acceptance of software delivered by third parties  The System and Acceptance Level Testing for the entire system conducted on MoD customer sites February 1997 to August 1997: Test Engineer - GP3 Project GP3 is a Command and Control system for the British Army running on a Windows NT network, written in Delphi and jointly developed by Data Sciences UK Limited (now part of IBM) and EDS. Its primary function is the real time mapping of Friendly and EnemyMilitary Features and Force Elements. As a member ofthe GP3 Test Team I was responsible for:  Testing each build and maintaining fault reports and feeding comments and suggestions back to the developers  Running Acceptance Tests with the customer and producing Test Logs of the customers comments September 1993 to February 1997: System Engineer - IRIS Project IRIS is an X.400 Tactical Message Handling System (TMHS) for the Canadian Department of Defence running on bespoke ruggedized UNIX machines. As a member of the TMHS Integration and Test team (September 1993 to August 1997) I was responsible for:  Coding one of the main modules in Ada using Rational Apex running on a Sun UNIX workstation  Writing and executing acceptance tests based on the requirements specification and delivery of software builds to the customer in Calgary, including installation and configuration of software and the running of acceptance tests  Automation of testing by converting test cases and acceptance tests to Mercury XRunner scripts 1991 – 1992: I.C.I. Chemicals and Polymers (BSc Industrial Placement Year) As a Computer Applications Engineer Iworked as a member ofthe software production team designing & implementing a Laboratory Information System using the Yourdon methodology in DECDesign and implemented in VAX FORTRAN. 1984 – 1987: Courtaulds I worked as a Computer Programmer in the Industrial Engineering department of a large textiles plant. This involved the development of Management Information Systems to measure factory productivity & quality on an Apple IIe. HOBBIES / INTERESTS 2010 – Present: Vice President Hampshire Skeptics Society I am the Vice Presidentof the Hampshire Skeptics Society,a non-profitorganisation for the promotion of science, reason and critical thinking in Hampshire and the UK. As Vice President of the society I organise monthly science talks and lectures by eminentscientists and broadcasters atthe Winchester DiscoveryCentre. Monthly meeting are attended by up to 180 people. I also give talks and lectures to other groups around the country.
