This document is the 2013 Christmas newsletter of the Maino family. It provides updates on various family members. Sylvia continues her work as a nurse and involvement in her church. Their grandson Dominic is in 2nd grade and enjoys singing. Their daughter Christina has moved out but left behind animals and now works at a new school helping children with learning issues. 1. Maino Family Christmas News Letter 2013
2013. What a year! First I want to honor years past by remembering those that mean the most to
us in the Maino Family including my in-laws and my parents. They are always with us.

On October 18th, 1980 I married Sylvia Agosto, RN.
It was
(The smartest thing I ever did!) Sylvia continues her
outstanding work as a bedside nurse at the new
Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. She sings alto
in our church choir and is the head of St. Bartholomew
Art & Environment Committee (she makes the church
look awesome!). At the right Sylvia is with Fr. Tom
Lamping and Sr. Mary Kevin Ryan at the Heart of St. Barts Dinner & Silent
Auction (Sylvia helped at putting this together).
On the left is Sylvia with (from top to bottom) Honey (da cat), Sylvia,
Vincenzo (grandson #2) and Cali (the Pit Bull). All are resting after a hard
morning playing and keeping grandma busy!
Grandson #1 (AKA Dominic IV) also keeps grandma busy.
He is now 7 years old and is in 2nd grade. At the recent
school Christmas Concert he was preparing to following in
his grandfather’s footsteps as a tenor! Edie and Dominic III
are busy with work and school as well. (photo below)
Christina Marie (da daughter) has moved out of the old homestead, but has left behind a fair
amount of ‘stuff’ including 2 of the animals featured in this newsletter. She has also left Neumann
Family services and now works at Nobel Schools UIC
College Prep. Her work involves using her Psych
degree from DePaul while helping children with
learning and behavioral dysfunctions improve their
quality of life and academic performance. She
plans on getting a Master’s degree sometime soon.

2. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from the Chicago Mainos!
This has been a busy year for me as well. I’ve lectured for Pacific
University on Vancouver Island (Canada) (left above picture), at
the Pediatric Cortical Visual Impairment Society (PCVI) meeting
Children’s Hospital of Omaha (middle) and for the College of
Optometrists in Vision Development (right) in Florida. I was also
interviewed during the American Optometric Association
meeting in Seattle (left). As Chair of the Poster Committee, I have
an opportunity to pick the very best research and clinical case
series/reports for presentation at the AOA meeting
I’m now into my 2nd year at Lyons Family Eye Care
seeing patients and helping kids and adults with
vision therapy. I also get to do cool things like the
Visagraph (computerized assessment of eye
movements while reading) and the TOVA (Test of
Variables Attention-a computerized test for ADHD).
This is truly a state of the art, high tech/high touch
office. If you are in Chicago you should drop by.
(Left) Singing with the
Northwestern University Summer
Time Choir, (middle)
demonstrating my mask making
skills at the Inside Out Art Studio,
(right) still experimenting with
aging and blending my own
whiskey. (Below) Showing off my
photography at the Artists of
Casa Italia Art Exhibition. (It
looks like I finally got that halo!)
My book was
awarded 1st Prize by
the British Medical
Association
My Potage Park neighborhood is
growing by leaps and bounds and I’m
an active promoter of that growth. The
not for profit Filament Theatre Ensemble
is making its home in my hood and I
now serve on its Board of Directors. I’m
also on the medical advisory board of
Easter Seals and a founding board
member of the PCVI Society.
