If you’re doing these 3 things, you’re closer to success than you think -

things, you’re closer to
success than you think

2. Success is like throwing a basketball into
the hoop from behind the 3-point line
If you’ve never attempted it before, it’s
intimidating, and it can feel like the taller players
have the advantage. But really, the playing field is
fairly level.
Success is all about how much practice you’ve
had, and your perspective and mind- set when the
ball leaves your hands.
There are a few ways you can tell whether you’re
about to make the game- winning shot or not.

3. 1. You surround yourself with people
who are more successful than you.
As the CEO of two companies, both Tungsten Solutions
and Flexpay, I am constantly surrounded by successful
people. Or maybe those people like being around me
because I’m successful? I never figured that out.
If you’re surrounded by people who have done things
right, they can be a positive influence on your
learning. If you watch them closely, they can show you
how to flick your wrist to give the ball just enough
momentum to make it to the hoop. It’s easy to be
jealous of these people, especially if you can’t pick up
their talent. But keep your relationship with them
positive.
Don’t become so focused on an instant reward from
them that you forget about the long-term benefits.

4. 2. You read.
There has been study after study about reading, and all
of them show how positive it is for you. Children who
read while in school are more altruistic as adults, and
they do better on tests and in class. This translates to
your adult life as well.
It doesn’t matter what you read; biographies, fiction,
technology reviews, articles on the internet about
success, a how-to guide on the perfect basketball
shot… everything you read allows you to see the
perspective of another, and forces your mind to think
in a different way.
President Harry S. Truman even said: “Not all readers
are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” In other
words, every successful person spends a lot of time
reading. If you want to join them, you must first be
like them.

5. 3. You hate to lose, but have lost.
Everyone loves to win, but not everyone hates to lose.
Some consider it simply an annoyance, or a learning
opportunity, and they’re right. But if you hate losing
more than you like winning, you’re more motivated to
try your best.
Every failure is a victory if you learn from it. That
much is still true. But the harder you try to win, the
more you’ll have to learn from if you don’t. If you
think like this, along with the other two above, you’re
much closer to success than you think.
