Cof f ee is a “guilty pleasure”.
Not like sneaking a smoke.
Oh no! Not nearly that bad! But nothing
that good is good.
Here’s the surprise! Not only isn’t it bad,
it’s a boost to your health.
Dr. Masato Tsutsui( Pharmacology
Department, University of the Ryukyus in
Okinawa) studied 27 people. His subjects
let him noninvasively measure blood f low
in a f inger af ter drinking cof f ee. T he
results? A 30% improvement. Blood f low in
a f inger is considered a good proxy f or
how blood might f low in the smaller
vessels of the body. And a particularly
good proxy f or how cof f ee might protect
the blood vessels of the heart.
T here’s more.
Several studies have shown that cof f ee
supports liver f unction. Heavy drinkers got
by longer without wrecking their livers.
Co ffe e ? It’s g o o d fo r yo u.
T here’s statistical (but not causal) evidence that cof f ee reduces the risk of type II diabetes. Other studies
showed strong evidence f or a protective ef f ect against Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Basal cell carnoma (a type of skin cancer)? Yup. Cof f ee again.
And, if you’re a guy and you have a prostate, cof f ee again. It lowers the risk of prostate cancer. Quite
substantially.
Lots of studies show cof f ee drinkers don’t get depressed as easily either.
Maybe it’s the atmosphere at Starbucks.
NOT PERFECT
Why does it always come to this? T here always some downside.

2. If you drink way too much cof f ee, you’re going to get f razzled nerves and jangled sleep. But you knew that. And
certain cof f ees are high in a substance that’s not so good f or your cholesterol. Pregnant people – especially
women – should probably take it easy with the java too.
Weighing all the many pros and adjusting f or the f ew cons, most people who enjoy a good cup of cof f ee –
even two – can ditch the guilt. Cof f ee? It’s a good thing.
