Summary
My professional experience is focused on designing and managing assessment, monitoring and
evaluation systems to document and improve the performance of collaborative dispute resolution
programs. My recent work in Liberia involves designing process and results indicators and
monitoring systems to track the performance of land and natural resource dispute resolution
programs. These indicators and monitoring systems are developed in close consultation with
program staff, the communities in which we work and with reference to the needs and
requirements of the local authorities and donors that support our work.
My work contributes to the analysis of specific disputes, general assessments of conflict situations
addressed by our program and monitoring the implementation of and compliance with settlement
agreements. I also work closely with program staff to develop performance monitoring systems to
improve our collaborative dispute resolution and multi-stakeholder processes and inform internal
training and capacity building of our team.
I have led several large-scale assessment and monitoring projects, including the Norwegian
Refugee Council’s Land Dispute Resolution Durability Survey, the USAID Land Dispute Resolution
Project evaluation, the NRC/FAO Cross Border Land Conflict and Food Security Program
Assessment. These projects have entailed the design and implementation of quantitative
household surveys, qualitative data collection methods, managing electronic data collection
systems, data processing and analysis and the preparation and presentation of results to end
users.
During the Ebola outbreak I collaborated with researchers from MIT and Yale to develop and
implement a household survey in Monrovia to assess the impact of the crisis on citizen confidence
in government authorities.
My work routinely involves interacting and collaborating with traditional and statutory community
leaders and government partners at the national level. In 2012-2014, I worked closely with the
Land Commission and its donor partners to develop county-level land conflict assessment
protocols and collaborated with staff of the Land Commission’s field offices to pilot these
assessments.
In July 2014, former NRC colleagues and I founded Parley to provide intermediary and advisory
services to communities, companies and regulators collaborating to sustainably develop land and
natural resources in Liberia.
