2. 2 Kings 4:1-7
The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant
my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the LORD. But now his creditor is
coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”
2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”
3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbour's for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a
few.4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the
jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her
and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me
another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts.
You and your sons can live on what is left.”
3. Death & Debt
MOTHER KNEW WHERE TO GO IN THE TIME OF NEED
Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time
of need.
Hebrews 4:16
If we don’t understand you are in debt then you don’t see
need for help
If you don’t understand seriousness of the problem you may
not be able to choose right person
Blessed is the mother who knows where to go
4. Slavery
Consequence of debt is slavery to creditors
Consequence of sin is slavery to sin
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave
to sin
John 8:34
5. What you have? What you need?
A warrior knows his strength and weakness
A successful business man knows his
capabilities
A honest man not only knows his mistakes
6. Act of faith
.. borrow empty vessels,..
Like oil multiplied, its not hard for God to multiply the jars
Exercising faith
Our actions prove our faith
Those who fail to exercise faith, also fail to experience God’s
overflowing blessings
In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need
someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over
again. You need milk, not solid food! 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being
still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness
Hebrews 5:12-13
7. MOTHER FOUND THE ANSWER TO HER NEED WAS RIGHT AT HOME
Promises and provisions awaiting to be claimed
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in
your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved
Romans 10:9
8. Involving children in the faith
Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will
not turn from it
Psalms 22:6
9. POSSIBILITIES ARE UNLIMITED
There is no end to HIS blessings
Oil didn’t stop until last vessel was filled
Number of vessels she brought was determined by her faith
...prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you
the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall
not be room enough to receive it
Malachi 3:10
Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it
Psalm 81:10
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows
Psalm 23: 5
10. The miraculous supply
Filled all the vessels
The limit on supply
Number of vessels
What ever you have is enough for God to use
What God will do with what you have.
A boy’s lunch
Moses’ rod
David’s sling
Editor's Notes
Most of the time at least me, I will try do my best to find the solution so we don’t become burden to othersThe best person you choose The best idea you depend onAll these might disappoint you at some point. We need to be sensitive to our spiritual lifeSeriousness of the problemOptions leftEnvironmentPeople around Usually these are the factors that effect our decisionsWhile in trouble our capacity of thinking comes down
If it’s dirt we can use water to wash it away, and for harder stains you might find better detergent in supermarket, no where you can find solutions for your sin. Except for the blood of Christ.Because the small jar of oil is at home they are not saved from creditors. Similarly because God gave promises they are not automatically applied to us, unless we believe, trust and accept we are not savedChrist dies for us all (not only us every one in this world) that doesn’t mean all are saved. Saved are those who accept his as saviour.

Oil which was already in her home didn’t save them from slavery but exercising the faith didfilling an immigration form
This is very important thing that can easily slip.when children of Israel crossed Jordan then plied 12 stones for upcoming generationsWhen God tested Abraham, Isaac was involved This is one of the issues with Israelites, they forgot how god saved their fathersthis is the same reason in New Zealand too, just one generation gap a country which send so many missionaries all over world is almost a formal Christian countryOne good practice that helped me and my family a lot is family prayer Resolution on mother’s day – family prayerI know Mothers can get things working
