- 3. Canoe and Kayak The following is an overview of rafting rivers: Reventazon: The Tucurrique section (Class III) is easy enough for first-timers. The Pascua section (Class IV-V) is very wild, and requires previous rafting experience. Can be run year round Pacuare: The country's longest and most spectacular river trip (Class III-IV), can be run from mid May to mid MarchSarapiqui: Beautiful river (Class II-III), good trip for beginners. Can be run out of San Jose or Arenal area, from mid May to mid March.

- Costa Rica, a vacation spot for thousands of people, is located between Panama and Nicauragua. It is a tropical paradise. It’s 19,652 miles of territory is bordered by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. You can cross the entire country in 3hrs by car or 45 min by plane.
- Various activities can be found in Costa Rica. For the adventurous, there is canoeing, kayaking, surfing, fishing, playing golf, exploring the rainforest, just to list a few. And for the people who just want to relax there are plenty of beaches and resorts and spas to choose from.
- Costa Rica's mountainous topography and copious rainfall are together responsible for one of the best white water river selections in the world. About half a dozen rambunctious rivers are regularly run by experienced rafting outfitters, and those river trips not only provide plenty of excitement, they also pass some gorgeous scenery. White water enthusiasts flock to Costa Rica, including several Olympic kayaking teams, but also, every year, tens of thousands of visitors experience the thrill of rafting for the first time there. These are just a few of the river trips available.
- With 755 miles of coastline on 2 oceans there are always waves breaking somewhere. There are nice calm waves for beginners or you can have high crashing waves like a miniature pipeline. The pacific ocean side has more surfing opportunities due to more coast line.
- Most of the country’s best surfing is located in the northern province of Guancaste, but there is excellent surfing in the central and southern areas as well. The Atlantic ocean offers more spots for beginners.
- The country’s Pacific coast is a deep sea fisherman’s dream, with, while the canals and rivers of the northern Atlantic coast offer world class snook and tarpon fishing. Bill fish off the pacific coast is the country’s biggest attraction to fisherman, with lots of sailfish and marlin.
