Dawourd Bey is a photographer born in 1953 in New York. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York from 1977-1978 and received his BFA in Photography from Empire State College in 1990 and his MFA from Yale University School of Art in 1993. He draws inspiration from everyday life and strives to document the experiences of everyday people in communities like Harlem, New York. One of his photographs titled "Kevin" from 2005 depicts a young man who appears to be in a classroom and has a sad, contemplative expression that seems to represent the struggles of people in communities. The photograph is part of a larger series documenting life in Harlem.
