1. Design For Change 2010 ..the changemakers Students of Class V-A The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
2. We thought of spreading Joy by giving stationery items, games and toys, mosquito repellents and sanitizers, packets of biscuits and cookies to less privileged children of an NGO, NayaPrayas in VasantVihar. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
3. We felt that we have such abundance of everything in our homes. So, getting new things from our homes (and not buying) to distribute amongst less privileged children would make us feel happy and gratified. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
4. We spread the message of getting things from home for all children of classes 2-5’s, collecting them in cartons provided to them and reaching them to us in class 5A to sort them out and pack and label them. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
5. We got divided into 6 groups of 5 children each. Each group went to a different Form (all sections of a class) to speak to children about the ‘Joy of Giving Week’. They were asked to bring from their homes new/unused stationery items/games/toys and each one to get a mosquito repellent or a sanitizer. A circular was also updated on the website for all parents of classes 2-5’s regarding the same. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
6. On the last day of the week, the children of class 5A made a final round to all classes to collect the cartons of materials to sort them out. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
7. Our teachers involved all the 6 groups of 5 children in sorting, organizing and labelling the cartons with different things so that they could be taken and distributed in a well-organized way at the NGO, Naya Prayas in the vicinity of our school. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
8. We all went in three groups twice with our teachers to NayaPrayas and distributed all the material there. They were so well behaved, courteous in wishing and thanking us. It was a delight to see them smile and so happy to receive things. We also opened and offered them biscuits and cakes and left the rest of the packets with their teachers to give one to each child to carry it home. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
9. It was immensely satisfying and an enriching experience for us to see these little children who were so happy to receive new things in good packs. It made us realize the ‘abundance’ in which we thrive and sharing from that can be so gratifying. It also made us realize to have a feeling of ‘contentment’ and an ‘Attitude of Gratitude’. We realized that such acts from us should be done often and we shall carry out this drive after discussing with our Principal. The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi
