If you're a gamer then you should care, because the Game Boy was one of the first hand-held gaming consoles, and was different from earlier models because it could play a multitude of different games hosted on 'Game Paks, that could be plugged into and taken out of each Game Boy.
Game Boy will evoke different emotions for each of us, but for the 10 or 11 year old me, it was definitely the excitement of playing 'Super Mario Land' and 'Tetris' when it was launched in the UK in 1990! I'd seen games on TV before, but I'd never been able to play them anywhere. Since Nintendo has always had a slightly more child-friendly outlook these games were ideal!
Despite being in black and white, Game Boy games were brilliant and the Game Boy was a world-wide smash hit, selling more than 118 Million units in total! (source)
Over the years it had many great games that commuters, retro gaming fans, and those who are new to Game Boy (our younger readers) will love even today.

If you're a child of the 80s or 90s like I am, then you'll no doubt remember Nintendo's wonderful Game
Boy! If retro gaming on your Android smartphone is your thing, then you should get excited, because
2. Nintendo have just patented a Game Boy emulator to be used in in-flight entertainment and, more
importantly, mobile devices!
Why is this great news for fans of game emulators for Android phones? Let's dig a little deeper after the
break...
Why Should I Care About A Game Boy Emulator?
If you're a gamer then you should care, because the Game Boy was one of the first hand-held gaming
consoles, and was different from earlier models because it could play a multitude of different games
hosted on 'Game Paks, that could be plugged into and taken out of each Game Boy.

Over the years it had many great games that commuters, retro gaming fans, and those who are new to
Game Boy (our younger readers) will love even today. Here are some of my favourites:
To refresh your memory about why Game Boy was so awesome, here's a video of one of its most famous
3. titles, Super Mario Land:
That music brings back good memories, right?
What Is An Emulator?
An emulator is software that allows the games of a console to be played on different hardware, meaning, in
this case, that hopefully we'll be able to to play Game Boy games on our Android smartphones soon!
Emulators have been around for ages on PC, but have tended to be unlicensed and in a grey area legally.
They're also not mainstream, meaning that unless you're quite the PC enthusiast, you may never have
seen them before.
Why A Game Boy Emulator Is Good News
A licensed Nintendo Game Boy emulator will open up the fun of Game Boy and its many brilliant games
that you may have forgotten about to a new audience. These days a lot more of us have a smartphone
than a portable games console, and 'Angry Birds' aside, I personally don't think that Android games have
been particularly good up to now.
So bringing back tried-and-tested games that are loved by Millions to the mainstream would seem like a
win-win for both Nintendo and gamers!
Unfortunately there is no release date yet, but the fact that this patent has been filed (Nov 27th 2014),
would suggest that it may be coming sooner or later.
4. Have Your Say...
