I’ve worked at the State Library for over 25 years and I love being a librarian, but there are a few other interests that keep me occupied and happy…
You might know that I love to bake bread….
and that I have two unusual cats, Gianni and Coco…
But I have another hobby that you probably don’t know about… Geocaching So what is Geocaching?
It’s a high tech scavenger hunt that is fun, challenging and educational.
The idea is simple. You hide something in a container. It can be very small or it can be bigger. This is called the cache. Then you take the GPS coordinates of where you placed the cache. This is where the Geo comes in.
So, you hide something. Log the GPS Coordinates on the Geocaching.com website. Geocachers come to find the treasure and sign the log.
Our Connecticut ancestors were familiar with this game of hide and seek. The most famous hidden treasure is right in this room: The Royal Charter of 1662.
Let's put the Connecticut State Library on the Geocachers map! I propose that we participate in this game of hide and seek. Create one or a series of geocaches at the State Library.
Another state agency already participates in this activity, and geocaches are hidden in libraries worldwide.
So let's join the fun and introduce new people to our exhibits and services, as well as our virtual resources. Geocaching will attract new visitors to our truly remarkable real treasures.
