The Bahamas has 4 airports and a warm, tropical climate with temperatures between high 70s to low 80s degrees Fahrenheit. The population is predominantly of West African descent, as many were brought as slaves to work on cotton plantations. Some white residents are descendants of the first English settlers who arrived in 1647 seeking religious freedom. An important part of Bahamian culture and music is Junkanoo, an annual street carnival and parade that originated from African slave celebrations, featuring colorful costumes and drumming.
