Microelectronics The South West UK has the largest concentration of silicon design engineers in Europe, second only to Silicon Valley in the US The region employs 25% of the UK’s microelectronics manpower 5,000 people in around 400 companies Multi-nationals such as STMicroelectronics, Broadcom, Infineon, Toshiba, HP, Intel, Gooch & Housego and others  The region has a world-class microelectronics R&D cluster, with; 200+ prime design and development companies 100+ systems integrators. Significant subsectors are; Silicon Design (including RF ICs, ASICs, Analogue Mixed Signal and Power ICs) Optoelectronics.
