2. What’s this all about?
Sponsored Instagram posts are set to be introduced to the UK,
Canada and Australia over the coming months, having
successfully trialled the concept in the U.S. since November
2013.
3. How to spot an advert
The initial advertisements to feature on Instagram were
announced last year but were only exposed to certain users in
the US.
Adverts on Instagram will have a “Sponsored” label where the
time stamp normally would be, with users able to click on the
‘…’ button on the bottom right to hide the ad.
There are strict rules that advertisers have to adhere to, such
as no text to accompany images and no product shots.
4. Why introduce adverts now?
Instagram was bought by Facebook in 2012 for $1 billion,
despite not making a profit from its over 200 million users
across the globe.
Spokesman for Instagram, Will Guyatt said: "Our aim is to
make any advertisements people feel as natural to Instagram
as the photos and videos they enjoy from brands who are
already using Instagram."
