1. OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR
Speech delivered by
Her Excellency Mrs. ‘Funmi OLAYINKA
Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Nigeria,
At the official presentation of relief materials to the Ekiti State
Government by the National Emergency Management Agency on
Thursday August 18, 2011, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The Director General NEMA,
The South West co-ordinator and other officials of NEMA,
General Manager, other officials of SEMA,
Distinguished Guests, Gentlemen of the Press,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
On behalf of the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency (Dr.) John
Kayode Fayemi, I am delighted to welcome you all to this very
important occasion of the presentation of relief materials to our
government by the National Emergency Management Agency
(NEMA).
As a follow up to what GM SEMA said during his remarks on
transparency and accountability of this Government, it is the
pleasure of this administration to have been identified as one
government that is being led by a Governor who is passionate about
the plight of the people of the state. At the beginning of our regime
here, we assured everyone that ours shall be a responsive and
responsible government that will stand by the people at all times, no
matter the situation in which they find themselves.
Our people will readily attest to the fact that we have tried not to
renege. The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has
specifically asked that I tell you that we are not going to shirk our
responsibility as a government in ensuring that whatever hardship

on our people is mitigated even as we build new trust aimed at
raising standard of living.
Our determination includes making sure that our people are fit at
all times to contribute to the economic development of the Land of
Honor where we take pride in integrity, hard work and industry. It is
partly the reason why this administration is working round the
clock to ensure that accountability and transparency becomes the
order of the day so that the commonwealth of the people are
judiciously managed.
You will all recall that this state has witnessed one form of disaster
or the other ranging from thunderstorm, flooding, fire, as well as
rainstorm, between January 2011 and now. I want to remind us
that the government of Dr. Fayemi was able to demonstrate its
sincerity of purpose and commitment to fulfilling its pledge to share
in the plight of the people by attending to over 800 victims of these
disasters across the state.
We are aware that the pains have been very excruciating for our
people, we know that whatever we have provided has not been
enough to guarantee full recovery of their losses, but we are happy
that we have been responsive in the provision of palliative measures
which have provided the initial succor that has prompted process of
rehabilitation.
I want to place on record that the administration of Dr. John
Kayode Fayemi is a progressive and forward looking one and
therefore favorably disposed to collaborating with any group or
individual that is equally committed to raising the standard of the
good people of Ekiti State.
May I, at this juncture note past assistance of the National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in alleviating the pains of
our people who in the recent past have been affected by disasters in
which millions of Naira and lives in some cases have been lost.

3. OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR
I want to urge all of us to work assiduously towards the prevention
of disasters instead of running round to find solutions to them after
the damage would have been done. It is the desire of this
government to see that occurrences of disasters are reported
promptly for immediate attention of affected agencies of government.
On behalf of the peoples’ Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi and
the honorable people of Ekiti, Ile Iyi, I want to appreciate the kind
gesture of NEMA and its officials. We also solicit their continued
support in making poverty history from our state.
On our part, we remain resolute on fulfilling our promises as
contained in the 8 point agenda of government. I also want to
assure you that this government will ensure prudent management
of resources at all levels, including the ones that are being brought
to us by NEMA.
On this note, I hereby take delivery of these relief materials to the
Glory of God and for the good use of Ekiti people. Once again, I
thank you all for coming and wish our entire guests safe journey
back to their various destinations.
Thank you all and God bless.
