2. Landscape in Painting
Before the camera
landscapes were painted,
many artists were able to
capture the beauty of the
nature that is now mainly
shown through photography.
John Constable – The Hay Way,
1821
This image shows a way of rural life that was
beginning to vanish at this time.
4. William Dyce – Pegwell Bay, 1858-60
This image although of
the sea falls into the
landscape category.
As there are people
within the painting it
could also be seen as a
portrait.
7. Landscape Photography
The first photograph
was taken in 1825/6
from then on landscape
photography began to
rival the painters.
Albert Renger-Patzsch – Beech
Wood, 1936
This image shows the simple beauty of
the nature.
8. Ansel Adams - Moonrise over Hernandez new
Mexico, 1941
9. More Ansel Adams
The Tetons--Snake
River, Wyoming, 1942
Bridalveil Fall
In my opinion Ansel Adams is one of the
greatest landscape photographers as his
images are so detailed, clear and
beautiful.
13. Cityscapes
As time progressed
and cities grew,
landscapes changed
from being just of
rural country beauty
to depicting the
realities of the city.
Berenice Abbott – Lower East
Side Waterfront, Side Street,
1935
15. Richard
Petersen – View
from the
Dresden City
Hall Tower,
1945
This image could be seen as a
documentary image as well as
landscape as it is documenting a
important historical event. The
bombing of Dresden, Germany in
WW2.
19. Seascape
Joel Meyerowitz –
Vivian, 1980
This image shows that the
category of landscape can
also include seascapes. This
image could also be seen as a
portrait can I feel it was
probably intended as a
portrait due to the title.
20. John Brett - The British Channel Seen from the Dorsetshire Cliffs, 1871
21. Sculptor and the Landscape
Sculptor changes
the face of many
landscapes in
England and
around the world.
Henry Moore – The King and Queen
