2. After collecting my results from
my survey, I found that the
circled features are what
readers would like to see in my
magazine the most. So, I will
make sure that the majority of
my magazine’s content is based
around these four things in
order to keep the reader
satisfied.
I would also like to include the
following in my magazine:
- Advertising for upcoming
shows
- Meet and Greet Photos
- Promotion for companies
(e.g. merch sites, clothing
lines etc.)
- Polls
3. Advertising for Upcoming Shows
To the left, there are posters for
tours that are coming up in the
UK for bands that fall into the
‘Rock’ Music Genre. Kerrang
mainly always dedicate space in
the issue for upcoming tour
posters in an effort for news of
the event to be seen by more
and therefore, more tickets are
sold. Also, it is common for a
tour poster to be on the reverse
side of the cover page.
4. Meet and Greet Photos
Most magazines have a
section in their magazine
that is filled with content
that has been sent in by
readers. A popular thing to
be sent in is photos of fans
with their favourite band
members. I think that it
would be a good idea to
have a space for people to
send things like this in to
the magazine because then
the readers are more
involved and have a chance
to feature in an issue.
5. Promotion for Companies
The companies to the left either
sell band merchandise, or are
clothing companies that have
been set up by members from
bands. Obviously, most bands
have social networking sites such
as Twitter and Face Book, so
these shops can be advertised on
there. But, maybe if a reader of
my issue doesn't have access to
the internet on a regular basis,
they may not know about these
websites. Also, some people only
know a few band merch
websites, so if a variety are
published, this will attract
attention to them and may even
provide the reader with a new
website to buy from.
6. Polls
Magazines often feature polls that
the reader can take just for fun.
Normally, in a Rock Music
Magazine, it will be questions like :
‘Do you prefer digital or physical
copies of music?’ or ‘What is your
favourite album at the moment?’. I
think it would be good to feature a
couple of polls because once again,
it keeps the reader entertained and
its something else to do as well as
reading the content.
7. Double Page Spread Ideas Article about touts who
buy tickets to sell at
more than double of the
price.
A write up on a recent
show that happened
with photos from the
show and what
people thought of it.
An article talking
about rumors of a
top band splitting
up after their tour.
A piece about a super
fan of a band who
dedicates their life to
the band and owns a
lot of merchandise.
A detailed review of a new
album from a top band
who have just came back
from a break.
A distraught mother
speaks up after her
child committed
suicide.
An interview
between a magazine
editor and a band
member.
Fender or
Gibson? The
ultimate Guitar
Review.
A ‘How To’
Guide for going
to a Rock Show.
Is Band Merch
Too Expensive?
A piece of text
discussing this.
An article talking
about why Rock
Shows are better
than Pop Shows.
A persuasive piece of
text telling young
people to stay out of
mosh pits.
A piece
giving advise
for getting
concert
tickets.
8. Article about touts
who buy tickets to
sell at more than
double of the price.
A write up on a recent
show that happened
with photos from the
show and what people
thought of it.
A piece about a super fan
of a band who dedicates
their life to the band and
owns a lot of merchandise.
I have selected my three favourite ideas for the double page spread of my
magazine. I really like these ideas because I feel like I will be able to add a
lot of detail into my article as I know quite a bit about the three ideas (I am
aware of the ticket websites, I managed to get tickets to a top show and I
am beyond obsessed with a band and I know how it feels when you feel
like a group of people are ruining your life because you love them so
much). Over the next few slides, I have developed my ideas for each
subject in order to give me a more clear idea of what I am going to include
in my double page spread.
9. Article about touts who
buy tickets to sell at more
than double of the price.
These websites
allow people who
have bought tickets
to shows, to sell
them to other
people. Most of the
time, the tickets are
put up for over
double of the
original price.
You are made
out to be not a
real fan if you
don’t buy
tickets from
these websites.
People now deliberately
buy tickets to shows
that they have no
intention of going to just
to sell them and make a
profit.
I could also do some
research to find out
how much an average
ticket goes for on
these kind of sites
and make a chart
comparing to face
value price.
I will use pictures of
some of the bands who
have had roaring ticket
sales on these
websites, and the logos
of the websites to stay
clear of.
The recent
Slipknot tour has
caused an uproar
with fans, over 400
tickets are on
these website for
each show.
Headline Ideas –
Touting Ticket
Trouble, Fuming
Fans Outrage,
SlipNOT, Selfish
Sellers Strike.
I would also like to include
some reviews of the website
from the internet of people
who think these sites are a
scam and should not be
allowed to operate.
10. In this article, I will include a star
rating out of five based on other
reviews from the internet, I don’t
want to base it on my opinions
because they are my favourite
band and it would be very biased.
A write up on a recent show
that happened with photos
from the show and what people
thought of it.
The ‘Blink Brixton’
shows were very
popular and the show
was amazing. Every fan
wanted to be at one of
these shows.
Main Headline
Idea – BLINK
ONE EIGHTY
REVIEW.
This was the show where
I took the photos at from
my contact sheet, so I
will include these in the
piece alongside the
writing.
I would like to
feature the set list
that Blink 182
played on the
night.
I would like to put
quotes in from
the show, for
example, Tom
Delonge changed
the lyrics in some
of the songs just
for the show and
some fun.
11. A piece about a super fan of a
band who dedicates their life to
the band and owns a lot of
merchandise.
This will be in the style
of an interview. The
questions asked by the
interviewer will be in a
different colour to the
answers given from
the super fan.
Photos in this
article will be of the
‘Super Fan’ with
items from their
collection and in a
shirt that have the
band on.
The band that the
‘Super Fan’ is going
to be in love with is
Blink 182. You will
see all of the
merchandise and
band related stuff.
Questions will include:
When did you first
become a fan of the
band? And How did you
become so obsessed
with them?
In the photos, I want
my model to look as
proud as possible so
the reader can see
just how much they
love the band.
Headline Ideas –
Super Fan (twist on
Super Man), In Love
with Blink 182, Young
Girl Devotes Life to
Band.
I will add some
quotes from the
super fan that are
not in the
interview to give
the reader more
detail.
I will have two
kinds of photos,
some in the
fan’s bedroom,
and some at my
dance studio.
