 Childhood.
 Life.
 Expedition

to Egypt.
 Rosetta stone.
 Champollion.
 How did he become emperor?
 Napoleon and Josephine.
 He

wasn´t French, he was born in Corsica
(when he was born it was an Italian
Republic).
 When he went to the military school, he was
bullied by the other children because of his
height and his accent.
 He had a talent since he was a child he knew
how to organize the attacks and defenses on
a battle.
 He

was a French military and a political
leader.
 He was a french monarchy from 1804 to
1815, the first monarch of france bearing the
title emperor since the reign of Charles the
fat (881–887).
 His legal reform, the Napoleonic Code , has
been a major influence on many civil
law jurisdictions worldwide, but he is best
remembered for his role in the wars led
against France by a series of coalitions, the
so-called Napoleonic wars.
 Napoleon

saw an opportunity to make the
founding country of western culture a
province of the greatest country in modern
Europe.
 The

task of deciphering the Rosetta Stone was
long and challenging. The Rosetta Stone was
found in 1799.
 The Rosetta Stone was found by French soldiers
who were rebuilding a fort in Egypt, they were
directed by Napoleon.
 J. F. Champollion deciphered the Rosseta stone;
he was prepared to it.
 Champollion

was a passionate orientalist, at
sixteen years old had already expressed the
suspicion that the hieroglyphic writing of
Pharaonic Egypt was directly related to the
Coptic. Studying the Rosseta stone, he had
achieved what seemed impossible to
decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics.
 On

May 18, 1804, Napoleon proclaimed
himself emperor, and made Josephine
Empress. Napoleon paid the Pope Pius VII
believing that if the Pope was there the
ceremony would be religious.
 He

met the widow Josephine and got married
with her, a year after her husband died.
 What

did he tell to the Pope when he
became an emperor?
 Did Josephine´s husband died before or after
he met Napoleon?
 What did Champollion?
 Which was his talent when he was a child?
 Which was Napoleon´s intention when he
went to Egypt?
