ER Final Conference - Round Table: Lessons Learned and Results to Share
1. Final Conference
Paris, May 31st, 2012
Round Table:
Lessons Learned and Results to Share
Wolfgang-Valentin Ikas, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München
2. 1. Bibliotheca Carolina – relevance and scope:
The project involves masterworks from the main abbeys and
bishop schools of the Carolingian Empire (8th-9th centuries),
including Reichenau, Saint-Denis, Corbie, Reims, Saint-Amand,
Freising, Wissembourg.
The manuscripts show the intellectual and artistic activity of
these centres of religious life, ecclesiastical and imperial power,
and their numerous exchanges of texts and patterns.
The corpus of manuscripts is thus limited by time (approx.
780-900) and space.

24. Number of manuscripts effectively and finally digitised
Additional manuscripts specified by the BnF and the French
BM as early as in 2011: + 14 888 mss.
Additional manuscripts digitised by the BSB so far: + 67
(including a number of fragments) 955 mss.
Additional manuscripts digitised by the HAB so far: + 39 994 mss.
As the BnF and / or other partner are going to digitise an extra portion
as well the sum total is very likely to exceed 1.000 mss.
25. Number of manuscripts finally being part of Europeana regia
170 mss. already contributed by St. Gall Monastic Library
(part of e-codices)
3 mss. contributed by the University Library of Heidelberg
… and maybe also by the British Library …
Finally resulting in more than 1.200 mss. to be presented via
www.europeanaregia.eu !
Notes de l'éditeur
Something we are quite proud of is that we have been able to do more than originally promised, as digitisation proved to be faster and cheaper than originally expected (as we gained more and more expertise in this field). The extra portion mainly refers to Carolingian mss. which is an extremely good thing as these mss. are among the most precious pieces in the respective libraries …
