5. BETTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR SINGLE SOLDIERS (BOSS) MICHELLE RODEN, 315 772-7807
 Fort Drum Hunt The Greatest Installation Scavenger Hunt the Army Has Ever Seen or GISHAHES (Gish Hahs) – 14-20 November. It’s a “game” where BOSS presents the players from all over the installation a long list of items to accomplish. Then people collectively in their respective teams divvy up and pursue these items, making incredible crazy art, performing wild things in public, and partaking in heart-warming community service projects. The team receives “points” for every item that is accomplished. The list will include a number of items or actions that must be made, found or accomplished, and then photographed or filmed and uploaded to Facebook, YouTube or instagram with the link to the content submitted on our website. It sounds complicated but the Hunt website is easy to navigate and use. Gish Hahs items have ranged from “random kindness items” like “Take a picture of you hugging a War Veteran” or “giving coats to a homeless shelter” to sublime items like “Take a picture of a stormtrooper cleaning a pool next to a sunbather” or “create a 2-foot tall seagull made entirely from sanitary napkins.” Whichever team receives the most points by scavenging the most items (quality counts!), will win an all expense-paid trip to somewhere incredible. Open to all Single Soldiers attached to Fort Drum. Team event of 4 players. $25 per team to enter. Money gets you into the game and a change to win the grand prize. All submission must be posted no later than midnight on 20 November.
 BOSS Invades Atkins - 22 November Compete in a functional fitness challenge from 10:00 am- 1:00 pm at Atkins Functional Fitness Facility. Pre-register for free at Atkins Functional Fitness Facility, Jack T Sweet BOSS Center, and Nash Blvd. BOSS Center. Open to ID Card holders 17 years and older. Male and female categories.
 Home for the Holidays – BOSS invites you to feel at Home for the Holidays on 27 November, 11:00 am – 11:00 pm, at their Nash Boulevard Center when they open their doors to an old fashioned Thanksgiving. Roasted turkey with all of the traditional side dishes will be offered starting at 2:00 pm. Along with the great meal watch the football games on their many big screen TVs. Available will be gaming, billiards, and Cyber Café for keeping in touch with friends and family. The BOSS Center is your home away from home throughout the holidays.

If you plan to take your students out of school for a short extended period of time, please let your school know as they may be able to provide your student with work to do while on leave so as not to be so far behind when they return to school. Please try to schedule leaves around the school breaks as much as possible to avoid your student from falling behind in their education.

17. HOUSING BILL BAMANN, 315-772-7256
AVAILABLE RENTAL MARKET: Off post rental market vacancies are now between 3% and 4% overall. There continues to be choices available for most categories of rental housing. On-post Family Housing has two bedroom homes readily available as well as one and two bedroom apartments for unaccompanied Soldiers at The Timbers on post. Many new rentals off post are still being constructed and will come on-line later the fall and into next year. Check with Fort Drum’s Welcome Home Center at Clark Hall for the latest information on availability of approved adequate rentals.
• APPROVED ADEQUATE RENTAL HOUSING: The Department of Defense’s new housing referral website, www.homes.mil, for use in finding approved available rental housing, is delayed indefinitely due to certification isues. It’s the intent that once homes .mil becomes fully operational, it will be the primary source for approved, available, adequate rentals. Currently, the list of approved, available, adequate rentals is hand generated and available at the Welcome Home Center at Cark Hall. Many rentals advertised in local periodicals and on-line listings have not been inspected and approved as adequate for military renters. If you do use another source for rental information, be sure to check with the housing office to be sure it’s an approved rental before entering into any agreement or request an inspection by our trained specialists.
• ARMY COMMUNITY HOUSING OFFICE CAN HELP: Never enter into a lease without checking first with the Army Community Housing Office to see if the rental you are contemplating has been inspected by us for basic safety and habitability issues. Always get your lease reviewed by Legal Assistance or the Army Community Housing Office prior to signing to be sure all your rights are safeguarded. The Army Community Housing Office at Clark Hall (Rm A2-54) is always available to assist Soldiers with any off-post housing issue, from finding the right housing and rental inspections to resolving landlord-tenant disputes . Stop in or call 772- 6883/772-9397 to speak to a counselor.

28. VETERINARY SERVICES CPT LAURA DIEM , 315-772-4262
 HOLIDAY HOURS: The veterinary clinic will be closed on 10 – 11 November 2014 for Veterans Day and 27-28 November 2014 for Thanksgiving. We will reopen at 8:30 am the following business day.
• NEED AN APPOINTMENT?: In our effort to provide better access to care, the number of available appointments will be increasing each month. Additionally, a greater number of short notice appointments will be available as well as surgery availabilities. Do you need to get your pet examined but still can’t get an appointment? Place your name on our new stand-by list and we will notify you of last minute appointment availabilities. Don’t hesitate, call today to learn how we can better serve you!
• WINTER AWARENESS: Winterizing your pet may not be at the top of your winter preparations, but taking the time to prepare your four-legged friend for the upcoming months can keep them much happier this winter. Trimming fur between toes or the use of snow boots can limit the formation of ice balls and keep your pet more comfortable when walking outdoors. Also, dressing short coated pets in sweaters and coats can help keep them warmer. Regularly check your pet’s paws for signs of cold-weather injury and damage, including cracks and bleeding. Wipe feet, legs, and bellies when returning indoors to remove potential toxins including deicer, antifreeze and other chemicals. Most importantly, remember that each animal tolerates the cold weather differently. Animals that are the most sensitive to winter weather include the very old, the very young, and animals with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and hormonal imbalances (such as Cushing’s disease or hypothyroidism). If you are unsure if your pet may have an increased sensitivity to the cold or if you are interested in other cold weather preparation tips, visit the Fort Drum Veterinary Clinic today.

BETTER OPPORTUNITIES FOR SINGLE SOLDIERS (BOSS) MICHELLE RODEN, 315 772-7807  Fort Drum Hunt The Greatest Installation Scavenger Hunt the Army Has Ever Seen or GISHAHES (Gish Hahs) – 14-20 November. NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION? HOUSING BILL BAMANN, 315-772-7256 AVAILABLE RENTAL MARKET: Off post rental market vacancies are now between 3% and 4% overall. • 9. October 2014 CLIF Notes 9 28. VETERINARY SERVICES CPT LAURA DIEM , 315-772-4262  HOLIDAY HOURS: The veterinary clinic will be closed on 10 – 11 November 2014 for Veterans Day and 27-28 November 2014 for Thanksgiving.
