Sinds 2005 is de put van Weber, een oude stortplaats gesitueerd aan de Nedereindse plassen, onderwerp van saneringsprojecten. Regenwater infiltreert in het stortlichaam en stroomt eruit in de vorm van een vervuilde stroom. Deze stroom bevat een complexe samenstelling van verschillende chemicaliën. Het meest relevant zijn calcium, magnesium, Minerale olie, BTEX en naftaleen. Minder relevant voor deze sanering, maar wel noemenswaardig zijn ammonium en sulfaat. Door de hoge hoeveelheid zouten heeft het water een hoge geleidbaarheid, wat een uitdaging biedt voor de saneringsmethode. Door de grootte van het stortlichaam is het debiet vrij stabiel, tussen 2-3 m3 uur-1. Momenteel wordt het vervuilde water gereinigd in een conventionele zuivering, die zijn levenseinde nadert. Om deze reden is er gekozen voor een duurzaam alternatief, wat weinig onderhoud nodig heeft, namelijk een constructed wetland (CW). Om te testen of het water geschikt is voor behandeling via een CW voert HMVT een pilot test uit. In deze pilot test wordt het inkomende water voor de zuivering naar een cascade stap toe geleid waarbij het water stapsgewijs in aanraking komt met zuurstof. Door middel van zuurstofinfiltratie neemt de pH van het water toe, wat ervoor zorgt dat calcium precipiteert in een bezinkbak als slib. Hierna wordt het water naar de biologische stap van de pilot toe geleid: een container met daarin 3 bakken, gevuld met verschillende lagen grond met daarin planten. Deze planten wortelen diep en geven het microbioom de extra boost die ze nodig hebben om de binnenkomende vervuiling af te breken. Dit geheel dient ter simulatie van een helofytenfilter, en als tussenstap van tekentafel naar een scale-up situatie. In de 3 bakken kan worden gespeeld met de aerobe en anaerobe afbraak condities en met de materialen. Voor de huidige situatie, is er een afwisseling tussen aerobe en anaerobe condities in bak 1, gevolgd door anaerobe condities in bak 2, tot slot weer aerobe condities in bak, om een gevarieerd pallet te creëren aan afbraak condities. Daarnaast kunnen deze bakken worden gebruikt om te testen of de planten zijn opgewassen tegen de condities van het water. Tot nu toe is er grotendeels aan het systeem gemeten in de herfst en de winter, en tijdens deze periode werd gezien dat de pH waarden vrij stabiel zijn. De conductiviteit lijkt te dalen door het systeem heen, wat erop duidt dat er adsorptie is van ionen aan de bodem matrix. De cascade stap doet zijn taak succesvol: het inkomende water is rijk in zuurstof. In het systeem zelf is de zuurstof laag, waar het weer omhoog schiet in bak 3. Dit wordt ook teruggezien in de RedOx condities, wat erop duidt dat het systeem naar ontwerp en toebehoren functioneert. Tot slot hebben we getest of het systeem in staat is om minerale olie af te breken. Tot nu toe lijkt dit goed te gaan, waar er nauwelijks minerale wordt gemeten in het effluent.

Frank Pels van Hannover Milieu- en Veiligheidstechniek BV ( HMVT ) vertelt over de praktische kant van het ontwerp, aanleg en onderhoud van een constructed wetland in Zwolle en bij Huis Doorn (grondwateronttrekking en zuivering van VOCl verontreinigingen). Het principe van een constructed wetlands is in Amersfoort, Zwolle en bij Huis Doorn ingezet voor de sanering van een VOCl verontreiniging. Inderdaad, eerst maar even uitleggen wat dat betekent. In de natuur is een ‘wetland’ het gebied waar de overgang van het land naar het water ligt. Dit kunnen bijvoorbeeld mangroven of moerassen zijn. Het bijzondere van deze gebieden is de afwisseling van biologische condities. Dat wil zeggen: op sommige plaatsen is veel water (en weinig zuurstof) aanwezig terwijl op hoger gelegen, droge gebieden natuurlijk wel zuurstof aanwezig is. Deze afwisseling in biologische condities resulteert ook in een rijkdom aan biologische afbraak processen. Dit principe wordt gebruikt voor een ‘constructed wetland’ met als doel om micro chemische verbindingen biologisch af te breken. Een constructed wetland is eigenlijk een doorontwikkeling van een helofyten filter. Dit type filter wordt al decennia gebruikt om huishoudelijke waterstromen te behandelen. De focus van de afbraak bij deze filters ligt op de macro chemie. Het principe van de werking van een constructed wetland berust op de afwisseling van aerobe en anaerobe condities in het systeem. Zo worden de chemische verbindingen blootgesteld aan verschillende afbraakprocessen. Er zijn verschillen biologisch actieve zones in een constructed wetland. De wortelzones van de planten herbergen een grote variatie aan biologie en biologische processen. Hier komen zowel aerobe als anaerobe condities voor. In het diepe water van het filter domineren anaerobe condities. Dit invloed van de planten is hier verwaarloosbaar. Het niet begroeide deel van het filter zijn de aerobe condities dominant. Van deze afwisseling in condities wordt bij het ontwerpen van een constructed wetland gebruik gemaakt. Een constructed wetland kan worden toegepast op een range van waterverontreinigingen zoals gechloreerde koolwaterstoffen (VOCl), aromaten, minerale olie, zware metalen en PAK. In deze presentatie - gehouden op een informatiemiddag op 8 oktober 2019 bij Huis Doorn - wordt ingegaan op de constructed wetland die is ontworpen en aangelegd voor een VOCl locatie in Doorn.

Groundwater is a precious natural resource. Often overlooked to protect and to care for because it is so easy to use, cheap and abundant. However, this is changing: the groundwater is turning grey. The groundwater quality slowly started to be impacted by decades of industrial and agricultural activities. At several water production wells, the quality has dropped below acceptable levels. This means that additional treatment steps are required before the groundwater can be used for industrial processes or drinking water purposes. With significant -financial- consequences for users. In this session we are zooming into the origin of the problem, parties confronted with the problem and solutions. The origin of the problem may be easily summarized as a result of industrial and agricultural activities. Pollution migrates downwards over time, deteriorating the water quality. This is only one part of the story. As awareness on environmental issues evolved in the end of the last century, many successful programs were carried out to protect the groundwater. Soil and groundwater remediation, emissions restrictions, they all contributed to protect the groundwater. However, due to enormous projected future costs, many needed actions were not taken. Policy changes sometimes replaced actual remedial and protection measures, however they did not resolve the problem. And now we realize that our groundwater is going grey. What are the solutions? How can we protect the groundwater and repair the impacts? The classical technological solutions are all their, however we cannot afford them. So we want to conclude with affordable solutions that already exist and can contribute. We look in detail in the development of biological remediation of groundwater based on the constructed wetland methodology. How do they work and what have recent projects learned us? Why are they a viable -financial- solution to treat contaminated groundwater? We present some in-depth know-how that holds a lot of promise for the future.

In the Netherlands, often only contaminated source locations are remediated, while pollution plumes keep growing as natural conditions do not always support natural (bio) degradation. Gradually, large areas will be (lightly) polluted. Traditional approaches of remediating those plumes are very costly and will cause a lot of CO2-emissions. With an alternative nature-based approach, plume remediation can be achieved in a cost-effective and energy-efficient way, by using constructed wetlands. Such biological groundwater treatment plants could be situated in green public areas. In three cases, results and costs of the implementation of constructed wetlands will be presented. With these project examples we will show that this application is a promising sustainable way of future plume remediation, which can be incorporated in urban groundwater management and other schemes of sustainable land management and land stewardship. The three case studies are briefly introduced below and will be further elucidated in final abstract and presentation.

Aan het einde van de Bremerbergweg Biddinghuizen op de rotonde bij het ‘dubbel like’ beeld op de dijk wordt hard gewerkt aan de Bremerbaai. Bij deze zomerse temperaturen hoog tijd om deze plannen eens nader te bekijken. De Bremerbaai zal een speeleiland en zwemwater van 1,8 meter diep krijgen. Voor het 300 meter lange strand komen geotubes in het water als scheiding tussen het diepe en ondiepe gedeelte. Geotubes zijn een soort worst van kunststof met zand erin. Daarnaast komt er een pier van 160 meter. Aan het uiteinde van die pier komt een uitkijktoren gericht naar het water. Ook de pont naar Nunspeet zal gaan vertrekken vanaf de Bremerbaai. Op het strand komen verder douches, een toiletgebouw en een strandpaviljoen, dat wordt gerund door Aquacentrum Bremerbergse Hoek. Er komen 150 parkeerplaatsen met een draaiplein. Voor de bouwvak 2015 is begonnen met de aanleg van de Bremerbaai. In januari 2016 moeten de werkzaamheden klaar zijn. Vanaf 2016 kan er volop van dit strand op aangename fietsafstand worden genoten. Het hele project kost ongeveer 2 miljoen euro. De totstandkoming van dit recreatiegebied is een samenwerking tussen de coöperatie Gastvrije Randmeren en de gemeente Dronten en wordt gesubsidieerd door de provincie Flevoland en de Europese Unie.

It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine.
