“GALILEO is the best thing that has happened to the state of Georgia when it comes to research.” Dr. Phyllis Snipes National Board Certified Library Media Specialist Assistant Professor of Media & Instructional Technology University of West Georgia
“I have what is termed ‘Young-Onset Parkinson's Disease,’ a degenerative neurological condition that typically affects people much older than me. I thank you for providing GALILEO because it provides me with the opportunity to do personal research into my illness. Through information obtained on GALILEO, I have come to understand the changes and transitions people living with Parkinson's experience. This assists greatly in the process of coming to an acceptance of and making peace with this disease. GALILEO also provides the rare service of making available to the public medical and scientific information resources that gives up to the moment news on the search for a cure. And that provides me with great hope. Thank you for providing the GALILEO service. Please know that it is appreciated and very needed.” Larry R. Flint River Region, GA

“GALILEO has been useful to me in all of my classes - from English 1101 to upper-division English courses. It allows students to find sources from around the world and to access many of these from their home computers. This is particularly useful at a school with some many students who work full time and commute. I've also appreciated the library staff's knowledge of GALILEO and specific techniques they've shared with my students that I can pass on to future classes.” English Professor Macon State College
“GALILEO is an excellent resource! I enjoy introducing the many features and resources of GALILEO to our teachers, administrators and staff.” Valerie Ayer Instructional Coordinator DeKalb County Schools Department of Educational Media
“I need specialized sources that I cannot find within 100 miles. GALILEO is a comprehensive, efficient search engine that makes my research possible. My students use GALILEO for efficient and indepth searches that prepare them for more concentrated scholarly work in the future.” English Professor Macon State College
Anne is a fan of GALILEO because… “it represents a collaborative effort among librarians that has continued over the years, providing both assets for research and an environment for collaboration. GALILEO is one of the most effective educational tools in the state.” Anne Oglethorpe University
“GALILEO provides ready access to a variety of reliable reference materials, journals, and primary and secondary sources. I have used GALILEO resources as a researcher, while writing my book Coretta Scott King: a Biography (ABC-Clio, 2009), and I have also used GALILEO resources during professional development workshops that I have offered for teachers. I am grateful to the GALILEO funders, planners, and staff for providing users like me such a valuable site.” Laura McCarty Georgia Humanities Council
Natalie Clewell is a fan of GALILEO because… “without it I would be lost! It has helped me write papers, find good books to read, research family history, and more. I used GALILEO as an undergraduate at UGA, and now I work with GALILEO every day at West Georgia Technical College libraries. The people of Georgia are so lucky to have this great resource at the tips of their fingers.” Natalie Clewell Librarian, Douglas Campus West Georgia Technical College
“GALILEO has made it possible for East Georgia College and other small two-year and 4-year colleges to afford a great number of resources that we would never have been able to afford as a stand-alone institution. The 'inventors' of GALILEO leveraged the buying power of the 35 libraries in the University System of Georgia and were able to provide numerous resources for all students, faculty, and staff in the USG. GALILEO has leveled the playing field among the USG institutions which has facilitated the transfer of students within the System. The inventors also collaborated with other educational institutions in Georgia to make valuable resources available to other students and citizens of the state. ” Carol Bray Library Director East Georgia College
“I use GALILEO almost every day! It never fails to provide me with information I need!” Rachel Hagues Graduate Student University of Georgia
“GALILEO has been my knowledge center from its inception. … All I can say is WOW! What a great place to learn and grow. GALILEO has helped me develop a love for lifelong learning and a desire to pass on the knowledge that I have acquired to others. ” LaVerne McLaughlin Director, James Pendergrast Memorial Library Albany State University
“Being a Reference Librarian, I cannot imagine my professional life without GALILEO! This is a truly indispensable resource that has come handy to me on many occasions when helping faculty and students with their research. If I had to come up with one phrase to briefly describe my experiences with GALILEO, it would be complete satisfaction and a deep appreciation of the whole gamut of services it provides. … In short, I am a huge fan of GALILEO and always look forward to taking part in their learning initiatives!” Librarian Mercer University
This student is a fan of GALILEO because… “it's very helpful when I’m researching a topic for my classes.” Student Macon State College
George is a fan of GALILEO because it provides “easy access to Consumer Reports for the general public and scholarly journals for students.” George Tuttle Piedmont Regional Library System
“Galileo is the reason I have been able to get this far in college. As a senior, I rely on Galileo for papers and projects that don't even require scholarly sources. It has helped me further understand subjects that have been a difficulty for me throughout my experience. Galileo has been the backbone of my success at Macon State College.” Elizabeth Macon State College
Mariam is a fan of GALILEO because… “where would I start from? Is from ‘because it makes my life so much easier’ or from ‘what would I have done without GALILEO.’ Well, I am a F.A.N. because it never fails me, it just never. ” MariamTajudeen Georgia Perimeter College
“I think that GALILEO is the most wonderful collection of resources to have been made available in the 21st century! We should be so thankful that academic, public and K-12 libraries have access to first rate resources at any time of the day or night. I am GALILEO's #1 cheerleader! Hooray for a partnership of all kinds of librarians and libraries that makes it all possible!” Susan Librarian
“I am always proud to show GALILEO to the teachers and media specialists I assist because it aligns with their work so perfectly.” Emily Hodge University of Georgia Educational Technology Center
“I love GALILEO.... It offers our students, faculty and staff a wealth of materials that ordinarily a two year unit of the USG could not afford as a single entity. The resources range from those related to specific topics, such as Nursing, to those of a general nature which are used by our public patrons. … The state of Georgia is so very fortunate to have GALILEO and I’m grateful that my institution is able to participate in such a wonderful program.” Susan Vines Georgia Highlands College
Bede is a fan of GALILEO because… “it has leveraged statewide purchasing power to make high quality scholarly information available to even the smallest college, school, or public library. GALILEO has pervaded the educational systems in Georgia and is widely respected for the opportunities it provides for student and lifelong learning.” Bede Mitchell Dean of the Library Zach S. Henderson Library Georgia Southern University
“I've used GALILEO as a professional and as a student. GALILEO appeals to the needs of both the professional and the less experienced researcher by anticipating the respective needs. GALILEO continues to be user centered in its design.” Mary University of West Georgia
Dr. Thomason is a fan of GALILEO because… “it makes research easier for me and it makes teaching the research process to my students easier as well. It is ‘one-stop shopping’ for information on an enormous variety of topics.” Dr. Laura Thomason Assistant Professor of English Macon State College
Scott is a fan of GALILEO… “not only because they offer a lot of great resources for all Georgia residents through their public libraries, but because their support people are great to work with. Any time that I've dealt with them, they've always been completely professional, helpful, and a delight to work with.” Scott Bramblett Gwinnett County Public Library
“I'm the same age as GALILEO--in Georgia years that is. It was born the first year I came to Georgia and I KNEW it was the product of a vision of forward thinking and inclusive library leaders in my new state. Georgia was one of the first states with such a comprehensive initiative to share resources across all types of learning institutions--colleges, public libraries, and K-12 schools. When I teach Athens Technical College students how to conduct their research using GALILEO, I tell them that GALILEO is a ‘Georgia Thing’ and to be very proud to have access to all its treasures.” Carol Stanley Branch Librarian/Cataloger Athens Technical College Elbert County Campus
“I've lived in Georgia 95% of my life, and GALILEO has been invaluable to me. As an undergraduate at a small liberal arts college, GALILEO databases helped me get through my research papers. As a librarian at the University of Georgia, I appreciate the breadth of resources we subscribe to through GALILEO, and I teach them every semester.” Librarian University of Georgia
Nan is a fan of GALILEO “because of its integration of information resources across the entire broad spectrum of the state's educational system. From Pre-K to higher ed, GALILEO provides continuity for Georgia's learners. What that means for our students at Georgia State University is that even as first-year students they are prepared to hit the ground running when they're assigned their first college research project. They already know to go to GALILEO where they will find the resources they need to complete that assignment. ” Nan Seamans Dean of Libraries Georgia State University
Shawn is a fan of GALILEO because “of the excellent customer support. I can count on a prompt, thorough answers to my questions. I always feel part of the "team" when troubleshooting a thorny issue. There are lots of information providers out there, but only one GALILEO!” Shawn Tonner Director of Library Services North Georgia College and State University
“No matter what type of library setting I happen to be working in, GALILEO provides a wealth of resources to that community.” Tim Daniels Assistant State Librarian for Technology and Infrastructure Georgia Public Library Service
“GALILEO provides our small college library with hundreds of professional databases that we would never be able to find on our own. Our faculty, staff, and students all benefit greatly from this. In addition, the GALILEO support team is on top of every situation. I have never had to wait more than 24 hours for a reply to a request for support. The team is professional, courteous, and is constantly providing more services to users, including tutorials, webinars, and one-on-one assistance. That's why I'm a FAN! Thank you, GALILEO! ” Teresa Pacheco Electronic Resources Librarian Gainesville State College
The Search Books section of HeritageQuest Online adds 26,000 books to my personal library that I do not have to dust or make room for. This collection has family histories and local histories many of which are out-of-print and I can read them for free. Ancestry Library Edition helps family history research since it gives me the ability to search records from distant places and know where to find the original records. NoveList helps me find more fiction for me and for library users. Since I have not had time to read much fiction until recently, I am weak in helping library users find what they want to read. NoveList can get me to books our patrons want to read. With PROQUEST‘s ABI/INFORM Complete, I check the latest news about the BP oil spill from publications all over the world and from all perspectives. Laura Carter Athens Regional Library System
I’m a fan of GALILEO because “it reliably provides excellent critical and research sources.” English Professor Macon State College
“GALILEO is the most useful resource that librarians and all the citizens in Georgia have! Whether you're a kindergarten student or an adult pursuing your graduate degree, GALILEO has resources to help you.” Gordon Baker Dean of Libraries Clayton State University
“GALILEO is an incredible resource that provides up-to-date information to students of all ages. As the media specialist in an intermediate school (grades 3-5), I constantly refer our teachers and students to its one-of-a-kind in-depth resources on Georgia's history, geography, animals and habitats. … In addition, GALILEO's wealth of information for teachers and advanced learners is unparalleled. GALILEO put Georgia first in the nation in providing online database resources to its citizens well over a decade ago...and it continues to be an amazing and valued resource today. ” Barbara Powell-Schager Media Specialist, Big Shanty Intermediate School Cobb County School District
Ralph is a fan of GALILEO because “of the diversity and scope of information resources available to users from our laptops. Keep up the good work!” Ralph Russell Retired University Librarian Georgia State University
“GALILEOhelped me tremendously with research needed while completing my post graduate studies at the University of Georgia. This is a great tool for any level of education and end user. I would highly recommend using GALILEO to anyone in any field, it is not only limited to the field of education. GALILEO has a vast amount of resources and databases to reference. I use GALILEO to find information both professionally and personally. Way to go, GALILEO! You Rock!” David Cadena Information Technology Services Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia
“GALILEO was a priceless source of information to me in completing my graduate education. I was introduced to GALILEO at Valdosta State University in 1996 while studying for my M.Ed in Instructional Technology. I took job as a Media Specialist with the Dougherty County School System on completion of my degree in 1998. I immediately introduced my teachers and students to GALILEO who also found the database a great source of information for teaching and learning. More so, I sourced most of my research resources for my Specialist degree in Information and Library Science, while I was enrolled at Florida State University between 2000 and 2003. GALILEO is highly envied by educators and students from other US states. I will forever remain a fan and user of GALILEO. ” Sunday Williams Media Specialist, Turner Elementary School Dougherty County Schools
“I wouldn't have been able to complete either of my graduate degrees without it. The ability to locate obscure education journal articles and easily capture the citation data for these articles allowed me to focus on the improving the quality of my research, rather than spending time and energy on the logistics.” Andy Spinks Former Graduate Student of Georgia State University and University of West Georgia
I love finding new and creative ways to integrate it into the academic lives of our college students, faculty and staff. I love seeing the look on a students face when we find an article that is, "Just what I needed," especially when they tell me that we have NOTHING for their research. Austina Jordan Public Services Librarian Emmanuel College
I’m a fan of GALILEO because… “as a librarian, Galileo has provided my students with 'one-stop shopping' for locating sources, both full-text and references to materials located in our library. For a complete complement to one's own library, Galileo pulls all of the resources readily available in Georgia and also available via interlibrary loan and puts them at the students’ fingertips. It is an easy resource to teach on the spot and is useful in one's own post-graduate work as well.” Librarian Columbus State University
“I am a fan of GALILEO because it has so many valuable resources for our patrons who are interested in genealogy and Georgia history. These are things that our library would not be able to provide if it wasn't for GALILEO. Every day we have patrons come in who are thrilled to discover what GALILEO has to offer them. Thanks GALILEO and Happy Birthday!” Dottie Demarest East Central Georgia Regional Library
“I love GALILEO because it puts a host of resources together in a fashion that is easily accessible and allows for creative research. I have done some genealogy and much literary research for me and mine in addition to helping library patrons. I cannot imagine going to another state where this valuable resource is not in place.” Anna Mancilla Macon State College Library
“GALILEO databases provided critical information for my high school students doing research projects, professional articles for my staff in graduate school, and great resources for the classroom. As a teacher librarian and provider of staff development, GALILEO is something I use and share with others! I love the PDF maps in SIRS Discoverer. I love SIRS Researcher for critical issues research. As a reader, I don't know what I'd do without NoveList! You can count me as a fan of GALILEO!” Rebecca Teacher Librarian
Pat is a fan of GALILEO because… “the databases provided by GALILEO contain articles and information that can't be found anywhere else on the web. I could never afford to buy even one of these databases for my personal use - they are way too expensive. I rely on my library to make them available to me. The databases can be accessed 24/7 which is great when I have a burning need for an obscure piece of information in the middle of the night!” Pat Carterette Director of Continuing Education Georgia Public Library Service
“I can think of no educational/public service in Georgia that returns more on its investment than GALILEO. In this time of economic difficulty, our libraries, colleges, and universities are more important than ever as information resources for all the people in the state of Georgia, not just those who live in major cities. From the Folkston to Lookout Mountain, from Plains to Toccoa, GALILEO is there for students, small businesses, and citizens who need information of a higher quality than is available through Google and its like. ” Librarian Emory University
Andy is a fan of GALILEO because… “it's GREEN. No more driving to the library, making photocopies of articles I *think* I might need, only to discard them later. I can use GALILEO from home, so I don't have to drive. I can evaluate, save, and read articles electronically, which uses much less paper. Also, libraries don't have to purchase and store as many print resources, which saves trees and reduces the amount of climate-controlled space they need.” Andy Spinks Former Graduate Student of Georgia State University and University of West Georgia
“GALILEO provides a one-stop shop for all my research needs!” Diana University of Georgia
“GALILEO has been a tremendous support for the New Georgia Encyclopedia, a unique resource for school and college students, and for teachers and faculty - not to mention the wider public. GALILEO staff are always responsive, quick with solid advice and assistance, and a superb resource in the State of Georgia.”
Andy is a fan of GALILEO because…. “it levels the playing field. ALL Georgia students--regardless of their socioeconomic level or the economic level of their school or community--have access to high quality information resources. Since GALILEO is available through public libraries as well, even home school and private school students have access to great resources.” Andy Spinks Supervisor, Library Media Education Cobb County School District
I recall the excitement when Georgia’s statewide virtual library was created in 1995. It was groundbreaking and equalized information access for all citizens, “cradle to grave.” … Since then, no matter which part of Georgia I lived in, I have been thankful every week to have so much quality research at my finger tips. … As Georgia weathers economic turbulence, GALILEO evokes pride and comfort. Any resident can walk into almost any library or media center around the state and find career advice, consumer tips, stock reports, or homework help. Definitely fan-worthy! Elizabeth Bagley Director of Library Services McCain Library Agnes Scott College
“GALILEO offers educational institutions the opportunity to stretch their electronic resource dollars by providing access to resources at a consortial rate, and providing access to resources that institutions might not afford on their own. This, in turn, allows institutions to direct their diminishing funds elsewhere. In these times of significant budget cuts, this makes GALILEO a hero in my book. Georgia's educational institutions, from Kindergarten to Post Graduate, need all the help they can get! Thank you, GALILEO!” Kat Hart Electronic and Continuing Resources Librarian Georgia State University
“GALILEO allows me to do my research on my home campus.” English Professor Macon State College
“GALILEO's wings spread far beyond the state borders. One of our faculty members has had to spend some weeks in Kansas this summer, but wanted to be able to continue her research on a book project. With the GALILEO password, she is able to access all the GALILEO resources she was using on campus and her research can continue without a break. She e-mailed me last week to sing the praises of GALILEO and its remote access capability.” Pat Borck Library Director Macon State College
“As a Director in a fairly large public library system, I see tremendous use of this wonderful resource. Library users are constantly asking for the password which tells me that they are using it on a daily basis. Additionally, people who enter the library are seen on the library computers constantly accessing needed information. This resource is the number one database used by thousands of library users in our public libraries.” Susan White Sequoyah Regional Library System
Andy is a fan of GALILEO because… “the support they provide is invaluable. Connecting 100,000 students and 8,000 teachers to all the great resources in GALILEO is important, but it is only one of many hats I wear. The GALILEO staff has made this part of my job very easy; they are always willing to give me detailed information, come out and provide training, and even perform many of the detailed technical administration tasks for me. They listen to what my patrons need, and they do whatever it takes to satisfy those needs.” Andy Spinks Supervisor, Library Media Education Cobb County School District
“Galileo is a great resource for the patrons of our Library. My favorite sites are the one about our history that may not have been previously available to the public. The Civil Rights library and The Tornado of 36 in Gainesville are fascinating sites that let you glimpse into the past. It is also an essential tool when researching genealogy. Heritage Quest and Ancestry library edition are highly requested. I also am impressed that Galileo makes the website user friendly and age appropriate. Thank you Galileo and keep up the good work!” Janine Cline Hall County Library Blackshear Place
Resa is a fan of GALILEO because… “it provides an integrated starting point for research in academic disciplines, as well as providing topical databases to satisfy personal interests. And that is just what the average Galileo user sees...as a librarian, I know about all the other services and support provided to Georgia libraries and their staff. Galileo rocks!” Resa Harney Systems and Technical Services Librarian Mc Cain Library Agnes Scot College
“I used to spend hours in the library doing research for my classes and have to access Readers Guide to Periodicals in three month increments to do my research. Now my students can access several databases at the touch of a button!! This is so much easier and saves so much time! Galileo is an amazing tool and brings the access of major libraries to students' fingertips wherever they are!! I love it and often use it for my own research.” English Professor Macon State College
“Galileo is the best thing to happen to the citizens of Georgia. Suddenly the homebound and the mobile, student or lay person has at their fingers what could once only be found in the best academic libraries in Georgia. No matter where they live or where they are located in their travels, at no additional cost, all Georgians can now explore their historical past, keep up with the most current news in their area of interest or be the lay scholar. Galileo has truly improved the lives of the citizens of our state.” Adrian Mixon Director Hall County Library System
“GALILEO, a great resource it is.” Yoda Jedi Master

This assists greatly in the process of coming to an acceptance of and making peace with this disease. And that provides me with great hope. Thank you for providing the GALILEO service. Please know that it is appreciated and very needed.” Larry R. Flint River Region, GA

  • 26. “I've lived in Georgia 95% of my life, and GALILEO has been invaluable to me. As an undergraduate at a small liberal arts college, GALILEO databases helped me get through my research papers. Thank you, GALILEO! ” Teresa Pacheco Electronic Resources Librarian Gainesville State College

  • 39. I love finding new and creative ways to integrate it into the academic lives of our college students, faculty and staff.
  • 45. “I can think of no educational/public service in Georgia that returns more on its investment than GALILEO. In this time of economic difficulty, our libraries, colleges, and universities are more important than ever as information resources for all the people in the state of Georgia, not just those who live in major cities. • 46.

  • 52. “GALILEO allows me to do my research on my home campus.” English Professor Macon State College

With the GALILEO password, she is able to access all the GALILEO resources she was using on campus and her research can continue without a break. She e-mailed me last week to sing the praises of GALILEO and its remote access capability.” Pat Borck Library Director Macon State College
  • 56. “Galileo is a great resource for the patrons of our Library. My favorite sites are the one about our history that may not have been previously available to the public. Galileo is an amazing tool and brings the access of major libraries to students' fingertips wherever they are!! I love it and often use it for my own research.” English Professor Macon State College
