Brain is a miraculous gift from heaven. It has the ability to think and rethink, to remember

And memorize, to store and access information whenever you want it. But people sometimes could forget

A phone number, a colleague’s name or a friend’s birthday. Students also might forget a mathematics rule,

An English vocabulary or a definition. So, what can a student do in order to improve his Memory?

Are there any effective strategies and tips that could help students to remember and memorize well in

Order to achieve their academic success?

When students study and revise for their exams, they should focus and pay attention to

What they’re studying. For example, Reading an article on their textbook, or answering comprehension

Questions, because when they pay attention to something, they can hold on it longer and remember it

Easily later. In order to gain attention, students shouldn’t multitask while they ‘re studying because it will

Hinder their ability to process the information that they’re trying to learn. They shouldn’t chat with their

Friends when they’re reading or writing, or sitting in front of Television when doing their

Assignment and homework because it would prevent them from concentration, comprehension and

Memorization, which could be also enhanced through rehearsing regularly, In other words, students

Should rehearse and practice the information in order to stick in their heads for a long time and it would

Be easily remembered. If they don’t rehearse what they’re studying, they will absolutely forget it.

Especially, when they practice the information and read it out loud for many times which help them to

Recall it later easily and quickly.

Using mnemonics in studying helps students to improve their ability to memorize

A wide range of information. Mnemonic is a device such as a pattern of letters, ideas or associations that
Assist in remembering something. In other words, it’s the art of tying things together in mind. They would

Help students to put specific information in their heads and they access it whenever they need it. An

Example of a mnemonic is:” My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Pizza.” To remember that the order

Of the planets is: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. So, the first letter of

Each word in the sentence stands for a particular planet. Another efficient strategy that helps students in

Memorizing is Taking notes in the classroom. Because it requires physical effort, mental processing,

Evaluation of meaning, and it also involves visual Acoustic output. Furthermore; taking notes almost

Forces students to concentrate on what the teacher is Saying and help them to prepare for tests.

Creating mental images for what students are reading makes things more memorable

And enhances comprehension. These pictures sometimes might be weird or stupid for others but they’re

so Meaningful to the person who draws them. They could present a vocabulary or a specific definition in a

Textbook. For example, once an intermediate student hears a word “Pirate”, he automatically draws a

Picture in his head of a pirate with an eye patch and a wooden leg, which will stick in his head and

Remembers it for a long time. Imagination help students to improve memorization.

Besides all this strategies that could help students memorizing well, avoiding cramming and getting some

Sleep are also important because it deprives people perform poorly on memory-related tasks and it helps

Also students to consolidate information that they’ve learned and make it less vulnerable to interference.

Human brain need sleep in order to properly process material for a long-term storage.

Paying attention, note taking, rehearsing, creating mental images and using Mnemonics

Help students to memorize what they’re studying and learning well.

But, People should not only use their minds to study, to rehearse and to memorize but they

Should also use it to meditate, to praise and glorify God who provides human being with a miraculous gift

That should be used for noble purposes, such as love and peace and not for evil, hatred and war.
