Input to Post 2015 Framework for DDR
Main gaps, needs and further steps to be addressed:
– Research:
• Facilitating synergies and clustering between projects and results under
an integrated risk management approach. Strengthening the adoption of
EO data and products in DRR.
– Education & Training:
• Better communication on facts, costs and benefits for adopting R&I
results (EO-based products and services).
– Implementation & Practice:
• Exploit different financial mechanisms to increase public and private
engagement in disaster. Mix different funding instruments.
– Policy:
• Facilitate transnational and cross-border cooperation between actors at
multiple level (international, national, local).

Conclusions
Communication strategies can foster effective response to
geo-hydrological risk providing accessible, usable, reliable
and tailored information on:
• causes, location, magnitude and
impact of geo-hydrological risks;
Increasing awareness (but
avoiding “no safety
feeling”)
Empowering public
resilience
Strengthening capability by
up-taking R&I outcomes
• suitable actions and behaviours of
single and groups to respond to risks;
• benefits of implementing innovative
R&I solutions (e.g., tools, products
and services) helping disaster risk
prevention and reduction.
