Sanitation Strategy (NRCWSS 2020 Strategy).
– Impact on human, animal & environmental
health at the level of small scale farmers.
4. Method
• Review literatures and other available

6. Results & discussions
• Water service & water management impact
– small scale farmers, sustainable agricultural
activities.
• Relative water supply decline constrains
– productive crop yields and healthy livestock
production.
• Various government agencies are
– not well defined roles & responsibilities.
7. Results & discussions
• Limited participation of grassroots stakeholders:
– Farmers, veterinarians working in the community, and
public health workers.
• Veterinary service is neither part the solutions
nor the approach:
– Livestock is part of the main development goal.
• Linkages between water & livestock production:
– Not explicitly addressed.

• Human, animal,& Enhance the effective
environmental & safe utilization of
health interface limited water resource.
• Food safety & Reduce waterborne
security diseases among small
• Agriculture scale farmers & their
animals.
9. Recommendations
• Needs updating to address the water &
small scale livestock production issues
explicitly.
• Use more participatory bottom up
approach & take into consideration the
local context.
10. Recommendations
• Both vertical and horizontal collaboration
approaches:
– Within water related policies connectedness:
• Water Service & Water Management
– Water policies to be built on other agricultural
policies:
• Crop, Livestock or Land
11. Conclusion
• NRCWSS 2020 Strategy is one of the
most important long-term water related
policies.
• Has potential implications to small scale
livestock production.
• Update & revise the approach & solutions
with respect to livestock production, One
Health, be connected with other policies.
