SAMPLE OF FLOOD URBANISM (CASE FOR 3R MANAGEMENT)
NEW: 09:17:2010
(to follow with WAER project access to water...The full project with prevention of disaster for
civilian protections,...,use of ancient buildings like lighthouses, cathedrals, castles,....in order
to make look out points - for forecast- and/or dry feet zone to prevent community drowning -for
instance- and an easy access during the preparadness and event like flood and/or flash
floods).
Spirits and project designs are close to the Dutch ILEA waterscape school of new thinking
about tranforming with water, in the 21rst century and has much more to do with leaving water
to its natural expansion instead of opposing to destrcuctive forces of water elements.
This is a new water architecture - flood defence architecture – to answer and manage these
flood crisis. In the past, ancestors wherever and whenever located in flood plains or river
esturaines used to build them and find shelter for the sacre of their protections.
Today, we prefer modern preventions that have limits -due to global changes- and also, these
buildings of the past look ringard compared to new technologies.
I believe anyway these buildings were safe havens and strongly build by masters, in such a
way they have travelled in time (to become sometimes world hesritage -like the great wall in
China....)
In a more dynamic way, for example Vauban with basic stones built around France the most
impressive coastal defence against floods with walls/embankements, and centuries after-
today- they remained unchallenged by modern anti flood technologies.
