       7. Sharpen The Saw – Sharpening the saw is
       about renewing ourselves in the four basic
       area’s of life: physical, mental, spiritual and
       emotional. This is similar to the World Health
       Organization (WHO) definition of Healthy
       Person. Fitness in all Four Areas and not
       merely the absence of diseases. It’s the habit
       that increases our ability to live all the other

        isn’t so much about the individual Habits
        as much as it’s about how the Habits
        relate to one another.
        And not only how they relate to one
        another, but how they pave the way for
        progressing through what Dr. Covey
        calls the ―Maturity Continuum―.

      The Maturity Continuum is based on the 3 levels of
      maturity:
      1. Dependence – The paradigm that we start out
      depending on others. Like a baby depends on his
      mother.
      2. Independence – The paradigm that we make our
      own decisions and we take care of ourselves.
       3 . Interdependence – The paradigm that WE can do
       things. That our capabilities and efforts working
       towards a common goal can great something greater

      You can see from Dr. Covey’s visual framework
      that Habits 1-3 (the personal work– Private
      Victory ) that will help you get from Dependence
      to Independence. Habits 4-6 (the interpersonal
      work– Public Victory ) that will help you get from
      Independence to Interdependence.
       And as you can see Habit 7, Sharpening the
       Saw, encircles everything which represents that
       working on the first 6 Habits is a continual and
       never ending process. This Principle similar to the

       Jim Colin’s framework of Building a Great
       organization from a Good one. His process has
       4 Basic Stages and each Stage consists of 2
       Fundamental Principles.
       The first model the transformation as a process of ―
       build up‖ followed by ―breakthrough‖. We can draw
       an analogy between the framework and a Jet
       taking-off on the run-way from the book Good to
       Great.
       Whereas the Second model depicts the Result-
       Based Management Framework in the Public

       STAGE 1: DISCIPLINED PEOPLE
       1. Level 5 Leadership - Level 5 leaders are
       ambitious first and foremost for the cause, the
       organization, the work—not themselves— and they
       have the fierce resolve to do whatever it takes to
       make good on that ambition.
       2. First Who … Then What - Those who build great
       organizations make sure they have the right people
       on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right
       people in the key seats before they figure out where
       to drive the bus. They always think first about ―who‖

       STAGE 2: DISCIPLINED THOUGHT
       3. Confront the Brutal Facts—the Stockdale
       Paradox - Retain unwavering faith that you can and
       will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties,
       and at the same time have the discipline to confront
       the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever
       they might be.
       4. The Hedgehog Concept - Greatness comes about
       by a series of good decisions consistent with a
       simple, coherent concept— a ―Hedgehog Concept.‖
       The Hedgehog Concept is an operating model that
       reflects understanding of three intersecting circles:
       What you can be the best in the world at, What you
       are deeply passionate about, and What best drives

       STAGE 3: DISCIPLINED ACTION
       5. Culture of Discipline - Disciplined people who
       engage in disciplined thought and who take
       disciplined action—operating with freedom within a
       framework of responsibilities—this is the cornerstone
       of a culture that creates greatness. In a culture of
       discipline, people do not have ―jobs;‖ they have
       responsibilities.
       6. The Flywheel - In building greatness, there is no
       single defining action, no grand program, no one killer
       innovation, no solitary lucky break, no miracle
       moment. Rather, the process resembles relentlessly
       pushing a giant heavy flywheel in one direction, turn
       upon turn, building momentum until a point of

      STAGE 4: BUILDING GREATNESS TO
      LAST
       7. Clock Building, Not Time Telling - Build
       an organization that can adapt through
       multiple generations of leaders; the exact
       opposite of being built around a single great
       leader, great idea or specific program. Build
       catalytic mechanisms to stimulate progress,
       rather than acting as a charismatic force of

       8. Preserve the Core and Stimulate Progress -
       Adherence to core values combined with a willingness
       to challenge and change everything except those core
       values—keeping clear the distinction between ―what
       we stand for‖ (which should never change) and ―how
       we do things‖ (which should never stop changing).
       Great companies have a purpose—a reason for
       being—that goes far beyond just making money, and
       they translate this purpose into BHAGs (Big Hairy

Psychology of color
       Colors speak loudly and clearly about your
       business. But they give forth mixed messages.
       You need to know well the hidden language of
       color -- and know that colors speak louder than
       words. They stimulate emotions, excite, impress,
       entertain, persuade. They generate negative
       reactions if you don't understand them. Lasting
       impressions are made within 90 seconds and
       color accounts for 60 percent of the acceptance
       or rejection. So don't select the colors you love.
       Instead consider their meaning to prospects.
