2. History
• Pixar began in 1979 as the name Graphics Group the
founders were Ed Catmull and Alvy Ray Smith it was a
part of the computer division of Lucasfilms before
being aquired by Apple computers owner Steve Jobs in
1986. The Walt Disney company brought Pixar in 2006
worth $7.6 billion. Pixar has made 12 feature films the
most notable being the Three Toy Story films. Pixar have
won Twenty Six Academy Awards seven Golden Globes
and three grammy Awards.
3. Toy Story
• Release date November 22 1995
• Directed by John Lasseter, Produced by Ralph Guggenheim and
Bonnie Arnold, Screenplay by Joss Whedon, Andrew Stanton, Joel
Cohen and Alec Sokolow Starring Tom Hanks and Peter Allen.
• Woody is the leader of a group of toys who live in Andy’s room
who come to life when no human is around but when Andy has
his birthday a new toy has arrived and everyone is impressed
making Woody jealous and after a trip to pizza palace they fight
and fall out of the car and must make their way back home
before they move house and never find Andy.
• the film was the first film to completely to be animated with
CGI Graphics throughout the whole film
• it was Pixar first feature film and was widely praised throughout
the world.
4. A Bug’s Life
• Release date November 25 1998
• Directed by John Lasseter, Produced by Darla K. Anderson and
Kevin Reher. Screenplay by Andrew Stanton, Donald McEnery and
Bob Shaw, Starring Dave Foley, Kevin Spacey and Julia Dreyfus.
• Flick a Ant from a colony of ants decides that he is fed up of being
pushed around by the Grasshoppers goes to city to find insects
that will product them but ends getting circus creatures that only
slightly help them to build a bird but it goes wrong and Flick is
outcasted but when he confronts hooper a real bird eats him and
they are save to life without fear and Flick becomes the hero.
• the film was Pixar’s second film and it was done with CGI graphics
• this film but Pixar Animation to be well known and produced
fantastic films for all the family.
5. Monsters Inc.
• Release date November 2nd 2001
• directed by Pete Docter, Produced by Darla K. Anderson,
Screenplay by Andrew Stanton and Daniel Gerson, Starring John
Goodman and Billy Crystal.
• Sully And Mike are best friends and Work together at Monsters
Inc there job is to scare children to generate energy for the town
but when they catch out Randall there worst enemy cheating they
find a young girl who turns out that she isn’t dangerous they are
caught out and then have to make their way back to save here
and warn the people that the company is corrupt.
• like the others this is also done with computer generated image.
• The film again was a box office hit and their highest grossing film
so far.
6. Up
• Release date May 29 2009
• directed by Pete Docter, Produced by Jonas Rivera, Screenplay by Bob
Peterson and Pete Docter, Starring Edward Asner, Christopher
Plummer and Jordan Nagai.
• the story is about a young boy called Carl who is into aviation and he
meets a girl called Ellie who is also into Aviation which then follows up
to them being married until her death which then Carl decides to live
on paradise falls like him and Ellie’s dream until he finds Russell a
wilderness explorer who stays with him until they find a talking dog
called dug who is working for Charles Muntz who is trying to find the
beast of paradise falls which they end up helping to find and get back
to his home while Charles is trying to find the beast and show the
world that he was not lying.
• the film was is done in with CGI graphics like all other pixar film
• the film was the first animated film to receive 5 academy awards.
7. Woody
• Woody is the main character in Pixar’s first film Toy
Story and normally the most recognised character in
any pixar film also appearing in three films. Woody is
meant to be a old fashioned toy from the 50’s possibly
to show that he could have been a hand me down from
Andy’s father. Woody also is the leader and the idea
that Pixar wanted is that Woody is a role model for
children that he learns from his mistakes and helps
anyone in need of help
8. Key Technology
• Pixar create their films using digital Technology which
works in different stages first they will draw the ideas
down and then animate them then adding more detail
to the whole set then adding more detail and then the
lighting to really bring it to life and then checking if
their is nothing missing or not complete or out of
place and then they animate the sequence which then
will have the voice overs. Pixar’s latest film Brave is the
first film to use the new Dolby Atmos sound system.
which the company hope is the future of the cinema
with new surround sound will make everything sound
clearer and more effective
