Enroll To Vote
India is the largest democracy in the World. Since 1947 then
free and fair elections have been held at regular intervals
as per the principles of the Constitution, Electoral Laws
and System.
 Election commission allows the right to vote to
those:
◦ Who are the citizen of India.
◦ Who are above 18 years old.
◦ Who have been living at their current
address for 6 months and longer.
 Voting right denied to certain class of people:
◦ Criminal convicts of certain class
◦ Person convicted of electoral offence
◦ Person of unsound mind
We the people, through our right to vote have
the ultimate power to shape the destiny of
our country by electing our representatives
who run the government.
 Voting is a way to speak your mind and let your
voice be heard!
 If you don‟t exercise the right to vote, you‟ll be a
hypocrite when you complain about politics
 Voting is our chance to make a difference in our own
lives and within the world.
 One voice, one vote really does count! There is power
in numbers, when all our family members vote, we
can truly make a difference.
 90 % of the youth that does not vote is away from his
home constituency on the election day
 Similarly, people between age group 23-35 are
working thousands of kilometers away from their
home possess Voter ID card of their native place they
cannot vote in Delhi with their UP Voter ID card and
do not prefer to spend thousands of rupees and 2-3
days of travel to cast a single vote from their place.
 We live in a small town where men handle the outdoor
chores so the ladies in my family don‟t go to VOTE
 People don't VOTE, thinking of waiting an hour or
more in a long queue under the hot sun leaving
comfortable air-conditioned room.
 Other reasons
 An entire generation which is politically disinterested,
don‟t come up to VOTE
 Attitude/ belief that nothing will happen or nothing
changes in India don‟t let them VOTE
 Lack of awareness about political options. Media creates
noise instead of awareness.
 Voter ID is the proof of your citizenship.
 It helps people by providing them identification in
society.
 It benefits people to get work, open bank accounts
and participate in other normal functions of society
that are impossible without photo ID.
 It gives us the ultimate power to exercise right to vote.
 Long lines could be eliminated, voter check-in would
be faster, data will be more accurate and less
expenditure occur on inefficient, out-dated data entry
practices.
 Campaign period of about 13 days or more
 Ends 48 hours before polling closes
 Parties issue manifestoes
 Slogans, Door-to-door campaigning etc.
 Posters, meetings, processions etc.
 Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation
(SVEEP) campaign has been launched in Himachal
Pradesh by the Election Commission of India in August, 2012
for the assembly elections.
◦ purpose of this campaign was to inform, motivate and
facilitate every eligible voter above 18 years
◦ Enrolling young and female voters ensuring their
participation in electoral process
 A mass awareness campaign launched in January
2012 in association with, to celebrate the National
Voter Awareness Week.
◦ Akshay Rout, director general of the EC, spoken to over 600
first-time voters from various colleges in and around Delhi as part
of Vote for India.
◦ As a par of campaign, Mascot "Mr Votu" was unveiled.
"a plumpy man who looks like a common man...will educate people
about the role and importance of casting a vote.”
◦ Apart from the mascot "I Vote for India" anthem was also
launched.
 Ayush Gupta, 20, an engineering student and the founder of the
group, Cabbage Heads that comprises students in the age group of
18-22, has kicked off a campaign, Get up and vote, to spread
awareness among young voters
 Another campaign, Oye Dilli - Open Your Eyes Dilli, launched by a
set of college students, urges people to vote.
 Hindustan Times has also been urging people to cast their vote
through its „My Delhi, My Vote‟ campaign. From running creatives
such as „Please don‟t vote if parking problems do not bother you,‟ in
the newspaper, hoardings have also been put up across Delhi.
