Do you remember when you were little and the world was still magical? Maybe you had an imaginary friend or your own enchanted forest and maybe you were flying a spaceship.
Back then we didn’t have the technology we have today and so I invite you to imagine…
what it would be like if the kids of today were able to interact and create their own magical world in their backyard or at the local park.
Let’s face it, kids these days are no longer happy playing with 2 sticks and mud…
They have grown up with digital devices and that is where their magical worlds are now happening.
As a result children across the globe end up sitting around 8.5 hours per day and the numbers are rising and parents are concerned about their kids health
So how do we get kids off the couch?
Our App is like a Trojan Horse: Parents want their children to be healthy and so they promote our App as Fun, but they buy it because it’s all about getting the kids to exercise outdoors.
At Geo AR Games we use Geospatial Augmented Reality + Smartphones or tablets and combine them with fun motion games. What you see here is concept art for our Motion Game “Sharks in the Park”.
Now you may wonder what Geospatial Augmented Reality is and what are Motion Games?
As I am explaining motion games you will also start to understand what Geo AR or Geospatial Augmented Reality is…
The playing area is a flat, open outdoor area such as the backyard, the local park or school yard. The 3D content or the game content is placed in for instance a park via the GPS sensor of the digital device.
The 3D content has got embedded, programmed behaviour and the behaviour gets triggered when the child runs up to the 3D content, for instance in this example the fish. When the child gets close enough to the fish school, they will start to follow the child around. Behaviour triggers can be the distance to an object, how fast the child runs up to the content or how much time has gone by.
Every game has got an antagonist and needs a challenge and in this case we have added reasons for the child to run away from danger such as a deadly jellyfish or a shark. If the shark gets too close to the child and the fish, the child looses all the collected fish and they swim back home.
Once all fish schools have been collected, the child gets rewarded with a sunken pirate treasure and more content and the next level of the game will be unlocked.
So who is our target demographic and who is interested in buying this application? Parents who are concenred about their kids health and children with enough pocket money.
Children get on average their first smart phone with 6 years old and in fact our research revealed that toddlers aged as young as 18 months often have their own iPad Mini these days
68% of children between 3 and 17 years old have their own smartphone in the US and the numbers are globally steadily rising.

So who is behind Geo AR Games? My clever co-founder Amie Wolken who is not only the developer, but also holds a law degree. Myself, Melanie Langlotz, I have a background in VFX, BDM and marketing. We both worked together at a Geo AR Tech start-up for 2,5 years and had been given permission to research Geo AR gaming during that time.
