Christian University with a fine

graduate studies at the
University of Arkansas.
• After college she moved to

3. • her paintings have been
collected throughout the
United States and

• Most of her artwork
comes from a continuing
passion for still lives.
• Polly finds this subject
matter full of
possibilities for exploring
the small wonders of our
everyday experience.
4. The Goal
• Making paintings and
mixed media work is how
she explores light, color
and the everyday small
wonders around me.
• Many pieces are made by
combining old bits of
children's dictionaries,
vintage papers, and maps
as a part of my paintings.
5. A Commission
This is a little 6"
square commission I
did a while ago. It
was meant as a
present for someone
being taken to the
U.S. Open, so I didn't
want to show it
beforehand
6. • At first I had no idea how I could
make a picture of a ball
interesting.
• It ended up being a lot of fun.
• I used the shadows to interplay
with the s curves inside the ball;
this helped offset the static
nature of a circle inside of a
square.
• Sometimes it’s enough to just
paint a version of what’s before
me. Other times I use collage as a
way of expanding the image. Text
is woven into the paint like the
million influences and thoughts
that permeate the act of looking.
7. Our Assignment
• This requires paper,
paint, glue stick and
paint brushes all in a
flurry together. It can
get kind of crazy.
