2. In “West Side Story” by Arthur Laurents the
Sharks come to America trying to find a better
Life.
3. But the Jets stop them so that they find it difficult
to get the life that they’d like to have.
4. “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury suggests us
that the freedom of thought (conscience) can help
us developing
personal ideas,
the first step to
become different
from others.
5. At the same time, the book carries the idea that
without all the information we have we would
be basically ignorant, and it’d be easier to control
the whole society.
6. Examples of what can further us
“Build a ladder if there’s a wall, don’t be afraid to slip and
fall” Red Flay
“There are miracles in life I must achieve, but first I know it
starts inside of me.” I Believe I Can Fly
Every change has to start inside you, starting
from your willingness to achieve what you want
in your life.
7. What instead can hinder us:
“People try to put us down just because we get around” My
Generation
“I want to be the minority; I don’t need your authority.”
Minority
Others, as said before try to
stop us from doing what is less convenient for
them.
8. In this story Thoreau claims how individuals
(citizens) and government should be strictly
connected and help each other.
Also this kind of relationship should be important
to us and to our happiness.
9. Thoreau is rejecting the idea that anyone is
required to sacrifice part of himself or what he
has because of the government.
10. The movie “The Book of Eli”
showed us that
having something to believe
in can give us
the strength to never give up.
11. But at the same time there will always be
someone who will try to go against you or your
thoughts.
12. In the “Lord of the Flies” by William Goulding is
represented the idea that fear could hinder us.
Ex. “There
isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the Beast. . . .
Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and
kill!”
13. And that an individual has to be
different from the others but on the other hand
everyone is part of a group, in fact we need
people that are somehow related to us
to spend time with.
14. “We’ll see if we can show that school of yours a thing or
two. Give it a month; then if you don’t like it, we’ll stop.
If you don’t like it, we’ll stop. I mean, sometimes people
just don’t get along, right?”
Not only our friends have to be somehow similar
to us, but we also have to get along with them if
we want to be happy.
“..but you and I both know there’s more to it than mere
grades, don’t we? I care about the whole child-his
happiness, his self-esteem.”
15. ”…It was a put- up job! See, there is this guy that
doesn’t like me. He put all these beers in my
locker and started a rumor going..”
Sometimes people can be right in the middle of
our “life-trip”, but that doesn’t mean that they
should be able to change the course of our life.
16. In “Beautiful Spencer” the main character is
hindered by his mother who has impossible
expectations for him. This expectations of her
bring him to be addicted to alcohol and drugs.
17. And even if his mom behaves like that, he finds
a way to be happier in his life: his girlfriend
is all he has.
18. “You’ve carried it so long, I guess it becomes like
a hidden deal inside of you, we try to bury the
feelings we carry.”
This example can show us how people try to hide
the fears and how these Native Americans have
been treated for years.
19. And even though Indians have been mistreated
for a long time, we can still find little native
American communities which still have the
same habits of two hundreds years ago.
