Is there a stripped out gear in my riding mowers transmission?
I was mowing my yard with my 24hp Craftsmen riding mower, bought in May 07, when i went to put it in reverse. I felt it jump a little then… nothing. Now it wont go forwards or
reverse. I think it is a gear in the tranny. Does any one think differently?

Greetings,
The gear is probably good. I believe it is the pin that attaches the gear to the cam shaft.
It should be an easy repair.
You can easily remove the pan and give it a visual inspection.

How old should my son be before I let him cut the lawn? Both riding and push mowers?
My son is 6, but a big 6. He can reach the pedals on the riding mower and is tall enough to use the push mower. He is really excited to mow the lawn and I know he would do
a good job, I am just worried he is too young. So long as he is not physically hurting himself, should I allow my son to cut the grass?

Hey, I started mowing the lawn around his age, and I’m a girl! My dad said “Listen, you are big enough to start helping.” The first few times I did it he stayed outside and
made sure I was doing it right. He showed me how to prime it (it was a push mower) how to start it, and how to add gas. After about a month of supervision, he let me do
it on my own. I felt good for helping and it made me feel like a big kid. Just make sure he wears tennis shoes, NO SANDALS! And show him how to do it for the first few
times.

Where can I get coupons or discounts for riding lawn mowers?
I am looking to purchase a new riding lawn mower… probably around the 20 HP – 45″-50″ range. I have heard lots about getting coupons or discounts to lower the price of
the mowers. If you have any information on where to find this it would be great. Thanks!

What are some good riding mowers for durability?
2 acres to cut once a week from April to August.
Typical fences, trees, and plantings to cut around.
Had a 33″ snapper that was great but after 20 years……you can guess.
Any engines to look for/stay away from? Any manufacturers to look for/stay away from?
The price range in the market is baffling.
Any good online suppliers?
Main things for me are ease of maintenance and availability of parts. I don’t mind paying for quality and durability. I don’t want to pay for frivolous and difficult-to-maintain
features.
THANKS!
I don’t really care how fast or with what style I can cut my lawn (ok, i do care about how fast or else i wouldn’t be interested in a rider..but not crazy). I’m looking for something
robust that will be easy to service.

who makes the new craftsman riding mowers?
I am looking to buy a riding mower. Probably 42″ deck. I see MTD makes many of the brands, Cub Cadet, White, Troy-built, Yardman, Bolens. I was looking at Craftsman,
Toro and John Deere. I was wondering who manufactured those 3 brands. Any suggestions? or help would be greatly appreciated.

The Toro Company Makes Toro, Lawn Boy, Ex-Mark. Deere and Company makes John Deere. Husqvarna makes Husqvarna, Craftsman, Poulan.
When making a decision on a tractor, look at how accessible each tractor is to service ( oil drain, air filter, oil filter, spark plugs, drive belts ) Getting a tractor serviced is
expensive and if you are able to easily perform these minor tune-ups you’ll save yourself a lot of money.

Are there any rechargeable RIDING lawn mowers available anywhere?
So far, all I’ve seen are these little 15″-20″ rechargeable push mowers (the battery-powered ones, not the corded ones), so I was wondering if there are any riding lawn
mowers with batteries that can be recharged (I know there are rechargeable forklifts, so I would think there would be a rechargeable riding mower somewhere). If there are
any of these, where can I find them and how much do they cost?
