3. DAY OF THE DEAD
CELEBRATION HISTORY
Since the beginning of time, man has felt the need to explain the
mystery of life and death. Many rituals have been created by cultures
to try to give meaning to the existence of human life. Throughout
time, many have asked these questions:
Why do we die?
Is there an afterlife?
Can we do something in this life to be able to enjoy the afterlife?

6. SUGAR SKULL
There is deep meaning behind the sugar skulls that decorate the
tombs and the homes of the deceased people in Mexico during Dia
De Los Muertos. As much as possible, these skulls must be
homemade because they are an offering to their dead loved ones. It is
very common to see the sugar skulls on a tomb besides the deceased
favorite food or items.

27. THE WIZARD OF OZ
Auntie Em: Help us out today and find
yourself a place where you won’t get into
any trouble!
Dorothy: A place where there isn’t any
trouble. Do you suppose there is such a
place, Toto? There must be. It’s not a
place you can get to by a boat or a train.
It’s far, far away. Behind the
moon…behind the rain... Somewhere
over the rainbow.
28. WHAT IS BEHIND THE TRADITION
OF A PAINTED FACE?
Some sugar skull painted faces are creepy or morbid but they often
depict the spirit of a cheerful and happy loved one. The bright color
paint, jewels, glitter and patterns portray the amazing colors of life
and often contain some hints of the loved ones personality, attitude
or beliefs. These beautiful decorations make the sugar skulls seem
very alive and as you will clearly see, this tradition goes beyond just
decorating a skull made of sugar.
