Eat Right,
Exercise, and
Have a Healthy
Life!

What does being healthy
mean?
 To be healthy means that you:
 1. Eat healthy food like fruits and
vegetables
 2. Drink plenty of water each day
 3. Make healthier choices; apples
instead of fats
 4. Turn off the T.V. and computer
and get active
Not only when your sick
 People believe that they are healthy
when they are not sick. This is not true. You
can be unhealthy and not sick.
What to eat?
To be healthy you should eat:
1. Grains/bread
2. Fruits/Vegetables
3. Chicken and Fish/Beans/Meat
4. Dairy
Here are some tips for what to
eat:
 Eat many different colors of fruits and
vegetables (5-8 fistfuls of fruit)
 1 cup is around the size of a baseball (or 2
fists)
 1 ounce is about the size of your fist
What you plate should look
like:
The Food Pyramid
• This is the food
pyramid.
• It shows what
you should eat in
one day.
Grains
 Eat about
3-5 ounces
of grains in
one day.
 Remember
: one
ounce is
about the
size of your
fist
Grains
The serving size of
grain are:
1 slice of
bread
- a CD
-Try to choose
wheat bread
instead of
white
1 cup of
cereal – a
fist or tennis
ball
½ cup of pasta –
a rounded
handful
Protein-Meat, Beans, Fish and
Nuts
Eat around 3
ounces of
meat/beans/
fish or nuts in
a day.
Remember 1
ounce is size
of a fist.
Protein and Meats
1 serving of protein:
2 tablespoons
of peanut
butter – a Ping
Pong ball
3 ounces of
fish/meat – size of
palm
1 cup of beans –
base ball or 2 fist
size
Fruits
 You should
eat 2-3
cups of
fruits a day.
Fruits
• ¼ cup of
raisins – a
golf ball
size
1 serving size
of fruits is:
• 1 cup of cut
up fruit – fist or
tennis ball size
Vegetables
 You should
eat 2 cups
of
vegetables.
Vegetables
 1 serving size of
vegetables is:
1 cup of green salad – size of
fist or tennis ball
1 cup of broccoli – baseball
Milk and Dairy products
 You should
drink/eat 2
cups of dairy
each day
 1 cup of dairy
is equal to:
 Yogurt size 1
baseball
 2 eggs
 2 slices of
cheese
Milk and Dairy products
 1 serving size of
dairy products is:
1 ounce of cheese – size of
thumb
1 cup of ice cream – size
of tennis ball
What should you be drinking?
 To be healthy you need to drink:
 Milk- 2 glasses of milk each day to
strengthen your bones
 Fruit juice- pure fruit juice; no sugar
 Water – 8 glasses of water daily to stay
hydrated throughout the day
 You should not drink soda which
contains too much sugar and caffeine
for your body
Exercise
 Being active is also very
important to staying healthy.
You should exercise between
30 minutes – 1hour daily.
 It could mean that you go
outside to play your favorite
game with friends
 Or go the park/ ride your bike
 Do some of the following
stretches!
Stretching Time!
 1. Kneel with both feet pressed together and knees
apart. Have the arms along the body with palms
facing up. While keeping back straight, bend over
slowly and try to touch your forehead to the ground.
Hold for 10 seconds.

Bad Eating Habits can lead
to…
 What can happen to you in the future if
you do not eat well:
 Obesity –People become fat, get sick
 Diabetes
 Blood pressure
 Heart problem

Eat Right, Exercise, and Have a Healthy Life!

  • 2. What does being healthy mean?  To be healthy means that you:  1. Eat healthy food like fruits and vegetables  2. Drink plenty of water each day  3. Make healthier choices; apples instead of fats  4. Turn off the T.V. and computer and get active
  • 3. Not only when your sick  People believe that they are healthy when they are not sick. This is not true. You can be unhealthy and not sick.
  • 4. What to eat? To be healthy you should eat: 1. Grains/bread 2. Fruits/Vegetables 3. Chicken and Fish/Beans/Meat 4. Dairy
  • 5. Here are some tips for what to eat:  Eat many different colors of fruits and vegetables (5-8 fistfuls of fruit)  1 cup is around the size of a baseball (or 2 fists)  1 ounce is about the size of your fist
  • 6. What you plate should look like:
  • 7. The Food Pyramid • This is the food pyramid. • It shows what you should eat in one day.
  • 8. Grains  Eat about 3-5 ounces of grains in one day.  Remember : one ounce is about the size of your fist
  • 9. Grains The serving size of grain are: 1 slice of bread - a CD -Try to choose wheat bread instead of white 1 cup of cereal – a fist or tennis ball ½ cup of pasta – a rounded handful
  • 10. Protein-Meat, Beans, Fish and Nuts Eat around 3 ounces of meat/beans/ fish or nuts in a day. Remember 1 ounce is size of a fist.
  • 11. Protein and Meats 1 serving of protein: 2 tablespoons of peanut butter – a Ping Pong ball 3 ounces of fish/meat – size of palm 1 cup of beans – base ball or 2 fist size
  • 12. Fruits  You should eat 2-3 cups of fruits a day.
  • 13. Fruits • ¼ cup of raisins – a golf ball size 1 serving size of fruits is: • 1 cup of cut up fruit – fist or tennis ball size
  • 14. Vegetables  You should eat 2 cups of vegetables.
  • 15. Vegetables  1 serving size of vegetables is: 1 cup of green salad – size of fist or tennis ball 1 cup of broccoli – baseball
  • 16. Milk and Dairy products  You should drink/eat 2 cups of dairy each day  1 cup of dairy is equal to:  Yogurt size 1 baseball  2 eggs  2 slices of cheese
  • 17. Milk and Dairy products  1 serving size of dairy products is: 1 ounce of cheese – size of thumb 1 cup of ice cream – size of tennis ball
  • 18. What should you be drinking?  To be healthy you need to drink:  Milk- 2 glasses of milk each day to strengthen your bones  Fruit juice- pure fruit juice; no sugar  Water – 8 glasses of water daily to stay hydrated throughout the day  You should not drink soda which contains too much sugar and caffeine for your body
  • 19. Exercise  Being active is also very important to staying healthy. You should exercise between 30 minutes – 1hour daily.  It could mean that you go outside to play your favorite game with friends  Or go the park/ ride your bike  Do some of the following stretches!
  • 20. Stretching Time!  1. Kneel with both feet pressed together and knees apart. Have the arms along the body with palms facing up. While keeping back straight, bend over slowly and try to touch your forehead to the ground. Hold for 10 seconds.  2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkVbpCHLQLc
  • 21. Bad Eating Habits can lead to…  What can happen to you in the future if you do not eat well:  Obesity –People become fat, get sick  Diabetes  Blood pressure  Heart problem
