OUR MUSIC VIDEO
It could be said that our music video ‘ATM -
Everybody Be Somebody ft. Danella’ has elements
which have similarities to real media test .
Showing that our video can be taken as real life
media text. There are also elements we
challenge from conventional media text to our
own style into the play .
CINEMATOGRAPHY
SHOT SIMILARITIES WIDE SHOTS
One wide shot similarity is Dust
clears by clean bandit where by
that used an extreme wide shot of
a frozen lake in Iceland to show
the manual worker change in
environment from the workshop
to the ice lake.
As compared to our video where
we used an extreme wide shot of
the view from the Thames from
Westminster bridge then
changing one of Chinatown.
Another wide shot
similarity is Nobody
To Love by sigma
where by that used an
wide shot showing the
back of car on a dusty
path.
As compared to our
video where we used
an extreme wide shot
of Chinatown.
The wide shot was very important in our video as aim for the use of them was to show
the environment in which the madness in our music video is happening and through to
use of wide shots the audience were able to grasp they were happening in such areas
as Chinatown, southbank,Westminter and other iconic London locations. As we
wanted to show the that London is big city full lost of possibilities and places like being
stalked by a group of masked guys.
SHOT SIMILARITIES (FEET CLOSE UPS)
Another example of a footwork
comparison is storm queen
look right through where by
they used close ups on the guy
in the lion suit shoes. As we
also did in our video with the
close ups on my feet while I
was dancing in the
performance hall.
Another wide shot similarity is
Nobody To Love by sigma
where by that used an wide shot
showing the back of car on a
dusty path.
As compared to our video
where we used an extreme wide
shot of Chinatown.
The reason my group decide to use the footwork close-ups is that we wanted to show
the audience the and technique and the difficulty of the footwork in the shots. which in
essence shows the dance passion as well as all the emotion and energy from the
dancers. Which some thing that is very important especially in house music as it is
about energy and passion.
SHOT SIMILARITIES (FACE CLOSE UPS)
One example of face
close ups used in
music videos is tchami
–promesse showing a
close of male
character. As
compared to our
music video were we
similarly used close up
of faces to show a
mask guy.
Another example of face close
ups used in music videos is
Waze & Odyssey vs R. Kelly -
Bump & Grind where they used
a close to show the main
dancers facial expression .As
compared to our music video
were we similarly used close up
of faces to show danella facial
expression.
The reason why we used close-ups on our characters that we wanted to show the
motion on the face . Especially with the problem of mask guys stalking our main
characters we wanted to show the audience the expression of the girls face when
they are faced with this predicament in our music video. As you can aslo see from my
examples above you can see that the cinematography technique is something that is
actually used in real media products to show the characters emotion and facial
expression when they are in difference situations.
MISE EN SCENE
PROP COMPARISON(MASK)
One example of mask
uses in a real media
text is Nicky Romero
Toulouse by the used
v for vendetta mask in
there music video. As
we did similarly in our
music video were by
we used white masks.
Another example of
mask uses in a real
media text is martin
garrix animals were by
they used animal mask
.As we did similarly in
our music video were by
we used white masks.
The prop its self was the main link to our narrative and with out it we would really have
n video as this prop was our main link to show to the audience a lose of identify which
we were very easily able to do through to use of the this prop. Aslo as you can see for
my comparisons above it is prop that is commonly used in house music videos to
symbolised there narratives like in the music video animals they were animal masks.
PROP COMPARISON(BOOMBOX)
One example of a real media
text boom box comparison is
friend within the renegade as
they use a child riding with a
boom box through out the
music video.
Similarly we use the same
concept in our video in the
scene in which i was dance
by the boombox.
One example of
a real media text
.
Similarly we use
the same
concept in our
video in the
scene in which I
was dance by the
boom box.
We decided to use a boom box as it really its self the mean symbol for dance, music
and dance battles with through uses of it was able engage the audience into focusing
on these topic in which we were trying to portray.
PROP COMPARISON(TRENDY FOOTWEAR)
One example of trendy foot
wear used in real media text
is Wankelmut, Emma Louise -
My Head Is A Jungle where by
the main female dancer is
wearing Puma high-tops a
currently trending footwear.
As we similarly used in our
music video with my footwear
Nike free runs which are also
currently trending shoes.
Another example of trendy
foot wear used in real media
text is white converses and
black with pattern converses
used in Example 10 Million
People. As we similarly used
in our music video with
danella’s footwear blue high-
tops converses which are also
currently trending shoes.
We decided to use the trendy shoes as the footwear symbolised an essence of urban
culture and youth, something in which we were trying to show in our music video and
the use of this particular prop helped us to do that. Also as can it it is typical prop used
in most house music videos.
SETTING/BACKGROUND CHALLENGED
One thing that we did
challenge was the use of
setting and weather as
use and
winter/christmas vibe
something not usually
seen in house music
videos. As compared to
such videos as 10
million by example
,Duke Dumont by I Got
U and Second city - 'I
Wanna Feel‘.
Our music video
House music video
examples
We decided to challenge
the seasonal setting of the
music video as the use of
this help toward given our
video a more menacing
and gritty London vibe.
Which is what we are
hoping to achieve in link to
the narrative of a 2 girls
being chase by masked
guys.
SOUND
MUSIC VIDEO START UP: BREAK BEFORE MUSIC
Sound wise one thing we do have
similarly to real media
examples is a break at the
start in which then an action
triggers the music . As in our
music video there was break
with the use of foley outside
then trigger to the music
through the pressing of the
atm button.
The video Telephone
Banking by clean
bandit & love saga
. Also has a break
of silence at the
start and like with
our video the music
is triggered by the
pressing of the atm
button.
The video wish you
were mine philip
george .Also has
a break of silence
at the start and
like with our
video the music
is triggered by
the pressing of a
button . A
cassette player.
We decide to do this effect as we as a group wanted to start the video of with a little
bit of narrative that links to the music video. Which we did by triggering the music via
the using of an atm as are a band is ATM. Which is thing commonly used in
house/dance video as a stated in my examples above.
EDITING
SPEED
EFFECTS
CHALLENGED
In terms of editing
effects one thing we did
challenge were the
typical heavy uses of
slow down footage
through the use of slow
motion or high speed. As
seen by the three
examples by the side
Right Here by Jess
Glynne, Won't Look
Back by Duke Dumont
and Nobody To Love by
Sigma. But if you
compare it our video
were we challenged the
concept and did the
reverse and sped up the
footage through the use
of time lapses.
The reason why we chose to high-speed in our film is that this something atm wanted
to bring in the house/dance universe. As we wanted to a mass passing of time to
create the impression of an endless struggle.
DIGIPAK
COLOURS
One why in which our
secound anclyiry product
,our digipak has
similarities to conventions
of real media products
such as other digipak and
this case like with the
digipak of mk’s remix of
storm queen look right
through. As our text in
front of digipak follows the
same colour scheme as
uses the colours black,
red and grey. Suggest that
the basic colour scheme
text look we went for looks
like it would if in well as
real media product. We
were aslo able to develop
it throught the uses of an
other glow effect which
help highlight the text thus
draw more attention to
album. A similiare
tequence that would be
used in a real media text.
We decided to go for this colour scheme as it was the reflection of the colours for our
other product the website. It was also link to the band as there are 3 different band
members thus we have three different colours. It also links to the typical simplistic
house design as shown by the storm queen dipak comparison above.
LINKS TO MUSIC VIDEO
One why in which our second
ancillary product ,our digipak
has similarities to conventions
of real media products such
as other digipak and this case
like with the digipak of nobody
to love by sigma. The imagery
shows a direct link to the
narrative of the music as in
the nobody to love digipak
front cover shows a image of
two girl have fun at the beach
which is a direct comparison
to video as the follows girls
have fun in sunny and vibrant
places such as the beach. As
is with our video where by the
front cover shows a half and
face split of danelle wearing a
mask. which links to our video
a the video follows danella in
battle against masked guys
and at the end she becomes
one. so do believe that we
have used ingsiting real media
conventions in our media
products. We have chosen to do this as we wanted to give the audience a little taste of the
music videos narrative as we did with have danelle half mask half face in blurred
background. Which dentally links to the music video in the fact that the half masked
design links to the main narrative and the blurred background links to the time lapses
used in the music video. This clearly a similar trend used in other house music digipak
as seen by the comparison above.
WEBSITE
DESIGN
I can definitely say that our website another
ancillary product has convention which link to
real media products. As seen above we have
used a simple white background to help draw
attention to the video we posted on our front
page like they also did on the clean bandit and
spinni records website. We aslo used a basic
colour scheme like the others did for the atm
website it was red, black and grey. As with the
clean bandit website colour scheme green,
white and black and the spinni records black,
grey and white. So from this can say that our
website does show to fit as real media product.
MEDIA THEORIES
THEORY OF EQUILIBRIUM
Media narrative theories is also another
convention the links develops our music
video a real media product. Through the
use of the theory of equilibrium use can
see a clear similar comparison of our
video ATM – Everybody be somebody ft
danella and is Waze & Odyssey vs R.
Kelly - Bump & Grind.
We decide to implement this theory as is help toward creating an ending to our
narrative that wasn’t a negative but a positive. Which is in scene as in the new
equilibrium that danella gains at the end she becomes a masked guy meaning that
there is no real physical death. As there is only a lose of her identity as danella and
new identity gained as a masked girl.
Stage 1-
Equilibriu
m
Stage 2-
Disruption
Stage 4-
recognitio
n
Stage 3-
attempt to repair
damage
Stage 5-
Equilibrium/n
ew
Equilibrium
The is equal state
the point him just
calmly passing
through a garage
sale.
The is equal state
the point as the girl
are just calmly
passing thought
Southbank.
The is equal state is
disrupted by the
presence of mask
guy.
The is equal state is
disrupted by the
presence of the
bump and grind
cologne.
It is then recognised
through the masks
guy constant
appearance thus
building up the
paranoia.
Then an attempt to
repair the disruption
is made through the
process of a dance
battle like with the
bump & grind music
video.
Then an new
equilibrium is
now formed as
she has now
become a
masked person.
It is then recognised
through the
uncontrollable
physical movement
on the main
characters body.
Then an attempt to
repair the disruption
is made through the
process of a dance
battle.
Then an new
equilibrium is now
formed as the main
male dance now has
to what looks like a
girlfriend.
CONCLUSION
Overall, I believe as shown the previously slides in
the PowerPoint there many examples of how
our media products used, developed and
challenged forms and conventions of real media
products.

As compared to our video where we used an extreme wide shot of Chinatown. The reason my group decide to use the footwork close-ups is that we wanted to show the audience the and technique and the difficulty of the footwork in the shots. which in essence shows the dance passion as well as all the emotion and energy from the dancers. Which some thing that is very important especially in house music as it is about energy and passion.
  • 6. SHOT SIMILARITIES (FACE CLOSE UPS) One example of face close ups used in music videos is tchami –promesse showing a close of male character. As compared to our music video were we similarly used close up of faces to show a mask guy. Another example of face close ups used in music videos is Waze & Odyssey vs R. Kelly - Bump & Grind where they used a close to show the main dancers facial expression .As compared to our music video were we similarly used close up of faces to show danella facial expression. The reason why we used close-ups on our characters that we wanted to show the motion on the face . Especially with the problem of mask guys stalking our main characters we wanted to show the audience the expression of the girls face when they are faced with this predicament in our music video. As you can aslo see from my examples above you can see that the cinematography technique is something that is actually used in real media products to show the characters emotion and facial expression when they are in difference situations.
  • 8. PROP COMPARISON(MASK) One example of mask uses in a real media text is Nicky Romero Toulouse by the used v for vendetta mask in there music video. As we did similarly in our music video were by we used white masks. Another example of mask uses in a real media text is martin garrix animals were by they used animal mask .As we did similarly in our music video were by we used white masks. The prop its self was the main link to our narrative and with out it we would really have n video as this prop was our main link to show to the audience a lose of identify which we were very easily able to do through to use of the this prop. Aslo as you can see for my comparisons above it is prop that is commonly used in house music videos to symbolised there narratives like in the music video animals they were animal masks.
  • 9. PROP COMPARISON(BOOMBOX) One example of a real media text boom box comparison is friend within the renegade as they use a child riding with a boom box through out the music video. Similarly we use the same concept in our video in the scene in which i was dance by the boombox. One example of a real media text . Similarly we use the same concept in our video in the scene in which I was dance by the boom box. We decided to use a boom box as it really its self the mean symbol for dance, music and dance battles with through uses of it was able engage the audience into focusing on these topic in which we were trying to portray.
  • 10. PROP COMPARISON(TRENDY FOOTWEAR) One example of trendy foot wear used in real media text is Wankelmut, Emma Louise - My Head Is A Jungle where by the main female dancer is wearing Puma high-tops a currently trending footwear. As we similarly used in our music video with my footwear Nike free runs which are also currently trending shoes. Another example of trendy foot wear used in real media text is white converses and black with pattern converses used in Example 10 Million People. As we similarly used in our music video with danella’s footwear blue high- tops converses which are also currently trending shoes. We decided to use the trendy shoes as the footwear symbolised an essence of urban culture and youth, something in which we were trying to show in our music video and the use of this particular prop helped us to do that. Also as can it it is typical prop used in most house music videos.
  • 11. SETTING/BACKGROUND CHALLENGED One thing that we did challenge was the use of setting and weather as use and winter/christmas vibe something not usually seen in house music videos. As compared to such videos as 10 million by example ,Duke Dumont by I Got U and Second city - 'I Wanna Feel‘. Our music video House music video examples We decided to challenge the seasonal setting of the music video as the use of this help toward given our video a more menacing and gritty London vibe. Which is what we are hoping to achieve in link to the narrative of a 2 girls being chase by masked guys.
  • 12. SOUND
  • 13. MUSIC VIDEO START UP: BREAK BEFORE MUSIC Sound wise one thing we do have similarly to real media examples is a break at the start in which then an action triggers the music . As in our music video there was break with the use of foley outside then trigger to the music through the pressing of the atm button. The video Telephone Banking by clean bandit & love saga . Also has a break of silence at the start and like with our video the music is triggered by the pressing of the atm button. The video wish you were mine philip george .Also has a break of silence at the start and like with our video the music is triggered by the pressing of a button . A cassette player. We decide to do this effect as we as a group wanted to start the video of with a little bit of narrative that links to the music video. Which we did by triggering the music via the using of an atm as are a band is ATM. Which is thing commonly used in house/dance video as a stated in my examples above.
  • 15. SPEED EFFECTS CHALLENGED In terms of editing effects one thing we did challenge were the typical heavy uses of slow down footage through the use of slow motion or high speed. As seen by the three examples by the side Right Here by Jess Glynne, Won't Look Back by Duke Dumont and Nobody To Love by Sigma. But if you compare it our video were we challenged the concept and did the reverse and sped up the footage through the use of time lapses. The reason why we chose to high-speed in our film is that this something atm wanted to bring in the house/dance universe. As we wanted to a mass passing of time to create the impression of an endless struggle.
  • 17. COLOURS One why in which our secound anclyiry product ,our digipak has similarities to conventions of real media products such as other digipak and this case like with the digipak of mk’s remix of storm queen look right through. As our text in front of digipak follows the same colour scheme as uses the colours black, red and grey. Suggest that the basic colour scheme text look we went for looks like it would if in well as real media product. We were aslo able to develop it throught the uses of an other glow effect which help highlight the text thus draw more attention to album. A similiare tequence that would be used in a real media text. We decided to go for this colour scheme as it was the reflection of the colours for our other product the website. It was also link to the band as there are 3 different band members thus we have three different colours. It also links to the typical simplistic house design as shown by the storm queen dipak comparison above.
  • 18. LINKS TO MUSIC VIDEO One why in which our second ancillary product ,our digipak has similarities to conventions of real media products such as other digipak and this case like with the digipak of nobody to love by sigma. The imagery shows a direct link to the narrative of the music as in the nobody to love digipak front cover shows a image of two girl have fun at the beach which is a direct comparison to video as the follows girls have fun in sunny and vibrant places such as the beach. As is with our video where by the front cover shows a half and face split of danelle wearing a mask. which links to our video a the video follows danella in battle against masked guys and at the end she becomes one. so do believe that we have used ingsiting real media conventions in our media products. We have chosen to do this as we wanted to give the audience a little taste of the music videos narrative as we did with have danelle half mask half face in blurred background. Which dentally links to the music video in the fact that the half masked design links to the main narrative and the blurred background links to the time lapses used in the music video. This clearly a similar trend used in other house music digipak as seen by the comparison above.
  • 20. DESIGN I can definitely say that our website another ancillary product has convention which link to real media products. As seen above we have used a simple white background to help draw attention to the video we posted on our front page like they also did on the clean bandit and spinni records website. We aslo used a basic colour scheme like the others did for the atm website it was red, black and grey. As with the clean bandit website colour scheme green, white and black and the spinni records black, grey and white. So from this can say that our website does show to fit as real media product.
  • 22. THEORY OF EQUILIBRIUM Media narrative theories is also another convention the links develops our music video a real media product. Through the use of the theory of equilibrium use can see a clear similar comparison of our video ATM – Everybody be somebody ft danella and is Waze & Odyssey vs R. Kelly - Bump & Grind. We decide to implement this theory as is help toward creating an ending to our narrative that wasn’t a negative but a positive. Which is in scene as in the new equilibrium that danella gains at the end she becomes a masked guy meaning that there is no real physical death. As there is only a lose of her identity as danella and new identity gained as a masked girl.
  • 23. Stage 1- Equilibriu m Stage 2- Disruption Stage 4- recognitio n Stage 3- attempt to repair damage Stage 5- Equilibrium/n ew Equilibrium The is equal state the point him just calmly passing through a garage sale. The is equal state the point as the girl are just calmly passing thought Southbank. The is equal state is disrupted by the presence of mask guy. The is equal state is disrupted by the presence of the bump and grind cologne. It is then recognised through the masks guy constant appearance thus building up the paranoia. Then an attempt to repair the disruption is made through the process of a dance battle like with the bump & grind music video. Then an new equilibrium is now formed as she has now become a masked person. It is then recognised through the uncontrollable physical movement on the main characters body. Then an attempt to repair the disruption is made through the process of a dance battle. Then an new equilibrium is now formed as the main male dance now has to what looks like a girlfriend.
  • 24. CONCLUSION Overall, I believe as shown the previously slides in the PowerPoint there many examples of how our media products used, developed and challenged forms and conventions of real media products.
